Family has had GT season tix for roughly 45 years and I've been going to games since the late 80's. Seen lots of wild games and great players. Two of the games that stick out are the '99 GT/UGA game won by GT in o.t. 51-48. Joe Hamilton vs Quincy Carter. Neither team could stop the other. And Calvin Johnson's coming out party at Clemson in '04. CU was dominating the whole game & lead 24-7 with about 5 or 6 mins left. GT reeled off 3 td's & won 28-24. Have seen at least 2 Heisman winners - Charlie Ward & Chris Weinke, and one runner up - Joe Hamilton. Joe was robbed by fat behind Ron Dayne. Have also seen Peyton Manning, Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Warrick Dunn, Derrick Brooks, Peter Warrick, Jamal Lewis, Julius Peppers, David Pollack, Knowshon Moreno, Garrison Hearst, Algae Crumpler, Heath Miller, Tiki Barber, Chris Long, Demaryius Thomas, Morgan Burnett, Micahel Johnson, & Derrick Morgan. Seen a total of 39 teams and 15 different stadiums. ACC - seen 12 (all but the 2 newest, Syr & Pitt) SEC - seen 8 (UGA, UF, UT, LSU, AU, SC, MSU, VU). I'm the opposite of jwheels, AU is like 1-8 when I go to their games. My AU buddies beg me not to go & even offer to pay me to stay at home lol. B1G - seen 1 (Nebraska) B10 - seen 1 (Kansas) P12 - seen 1 (Arizona - the "Desert Swarm" defense of '94) Have also seen BYU, Navy, Army, So. Miss, MTSU and a whole host of cream puffs. |

I'm on Neb +10 as well. UGA is disappointed that they aren't in the NC game and while they are individually talented on defense they haven't played great on that side of the ball. They've given up 300+ yds rushing in each of their last 3 games. Most of that defense will be headed to the NFL after the season so I'm not sure how focused they'll be for a meaningless bowl game. I think Nebraska can move the ball on them and keep it close.

Looks like they got Ellis Johnson as DC. Good pick up. Heckuva defensive coach and Spurrier said he was the main one responsible for getting Clowney to come to So Car., so he can recruit too.

Way too much FSU love in this thread. I wouldn't put their defense in the Top 5, much less #1. They've padded their stats vs weak teams. Against better competition they've looked anything but dominant. They gave 37 pts at home to Clemson and also 37 pts at home vs a UF team with a mediocre offense. How motivated will FSU be after getting crushed at home by UF. GT got whipped last week too, but they were 2 TD road dogs and nobody expected them to win so it shouldn't be as deflating as FSU's loss. How focused will Stoops be? Has he ever faced the option? He wasn't at FSU the last 2 times these teams played...both games won by GT (31-28 in '08 and 49-44 in '09 @ FSU). GT ran for over 400 yds in the '09 game. I've been watching this GT offense the last 5 yrs and if a team has never faced it they typically look clueless...especially fast athletic teams like FSU. These kind of teams are full of 4 & 5 star guys trying to make kill shots to get on SportsCenter. They have a hard time playing disciplined assignment football. It's boring & frustrating to them. They get tired of getting cut block over & over. They also tend to over-pursue. It just takes 1 guy not playing his assignment for this offense to score. Some of GT's best rushing performances under Johnson have been vs talented teams like FSU, Miami, UGA, UNC, etc. One thing to remember, all of the teams in GT's division (plus Clemson) spend time in the Spring & Summer getting ready for the option. Since GT and FSU didn't play in the regular season I would assume FSU didn't spend any extra prep time getting ready for it. So they've only had this one week to prepare. I expect this weekends game to be a similar high scoring game as the previous two. I'm on GT +14 but also think Over 61 is solid. GT's defense is pathetic and FSU should score everytime they have the ball provided EJ doesn't make any of his bone-headed throws. |

Hookem - I'm on the same page buddy. Already jumped on NIU, UGA, & UCLA....and was leaning Okie St. I also saw ND +11.5 vs Bama and my eyes almost jumped out of my head! All of the SEC kool aid drinkers here in ATL think the SEC champ will crush ND. Sumbitches probably haven't even watched ND play all year....that defense is for real!

Saw ND +11.5 last night as well and almost put what's left of my bankroll on it...lol I think that'll be a low scoring, 17-14 type of game. |

BYU has caused its opponents have low rankings in rush offense. Back out their numbers vs. BYU, and then tell me what you get. You'd still get sucky rush offenses. I'd agree with you if it was the first month of the season....taking out one game would drastically improve their numbers. But hell we've played 8 weeks of football. Take out these teams "bad" game vs BYU and they're still pathetic rushing the ball.

Abizzo - Well aware they had a bad game. Even after that subpar performance, though, they're still 12th in the country at 3.0 yards per carry. Pretty good, ehh? Likely leaving Cuse alone as I missed the opening line. BYU has padded those stats by playing the #107, #108, #109, & #119 rush offenses in the country. They've only played one Top 40 rush offense and that was #38 ND and they ran for 270 yds. GT is averaging 339 rush yds/gm. BYU does not have an elite rush defense, imo. Plus they now have to travel all the way across the country after the tough road loss to ND, and only have one wk to get ready for the option offense. Call me a homer but I think GT wins by 7-14 pts. I do like your PSU pick. GL |
