I'm not saying I will support Hillary or Elizabeth Warren or any other Dem for that matter but maybe it won't be so bad if they are elected. Here's why...
In my lifetime the two most prosperous times in America were under Reagan and Clinton. Reagan had Democrat Congress and Clinton had a Republican Congress.
When the President knows he (or she) needs to work with the other side, and when Congress knows they won't get anything passed when the Pres is from the other party, they work together where the legislation that is passed is a compromise, meeting in the middle.
In my lifetime look what happened when one party held the White House and both houses of Congress. Clinton elected and Republicans sweep Congress a few years later. Bush elected...a few years later Democrats sweep Congress. Obama elected...a few years later Republicans sweep Congress.
Besides legislation being compromised Supreme Court Justices will also have to be less political. If the President is smart he will not nominate a Judge knowing that potential Justice will not be confirmed with 51 votes in the Senate.

Somewhere, there is a graph showing exactly what you have espoused above.
If I remember correctly, it shows that the same party controlling the white house and congress has created poorer economic climates than the scenarios above.

That's always been the case and it provides checks and balances to an extent. Unfortunately, the hardliners seem to take it to a new level under current political climate.

I think it makes sense in theory based on the 20th century....
but this is the 21st century and based on history a willingness of the current legislative branch to work with the executive branch is a problem... the tea party movement in someways was designed specifically to work against the perceived agenda of the president... i am not sure if it gets better with boehner out but perhaps it cant get worse in terms of a climate of getting nothing done on purpose...
and then are we guessing that hillary will be less of a target for GOPs?
considering the intentional war on women, hillary will be a perfect target, especially when she starts rolling out her feminist agenda and their need to stop her...
This is why I said in 2012 that I would have voted for newt as the candidate along with paul. newt during the clinton years had a history of actually working to get things done. it is that type of leadership that the nation needs but I am not sure will get...
As a non-partisan independent I find this interesting food for thought

i would say yes. the level of craziness and mental retardation that obama was spawned with the rightwingers is unprecedented. it's hard to even understand the legitimate criticisms of obama because logical anti-obama voices have been subsumed by the nuts. i have a couple of threads devoted to this.

the hateful racist spirit that fuels the GOP base might take a softer stance on a woman... obama being an african american in a position of power was probably just too much for some to take and they lost their minds...
I knew this democrat that was an older guy that had to go through things to accept that hillary was probably the right choice in 2008 for his party. but having a woman in charge was tough for him to reconcile... but then when they rolled out obama, he thought it was just too far...
As a non-partisan independent that looks at both sides equally, I wanted to point out that democrats come with issues of race and gender also... But as seen in such poor defense of racism, discrimination, scape goating etc.,pointing the finger at the other side does not absolve the absolute craziness and insane thinking of what you have posted above...
I think its one thing to be against same sex marriage.
ITs a whole other thing to think in this fantasy/dream world/magical manner...
Once again when it comes to people that live in their fantasy land dream world, its not their view on political issues that is so concerning and completely insane... its HOW they think that iss the problem

Hate to spoil your Thread but your logic is flawed. You cannot assume anything about the 2016 Senate. There are going to be 34 Senate seats up for grabs in 2016. Currently, Democrats are expected to have 10 seats up for election, and
Republicans are expected to have 24 seats up for election. If anything, the Republican Senate is in trouble come 2016.

goose, the 2014 elections were pretty standard for midterm elections in a president's second term. that president's party usually loses ground, and 2016 will obviously set up differently.
but, the low voter turnout for democrats is a pretty big issue, i think.

I think we should just make Pelosi and Reid President and Vice President. These are two of the most sensible people to ever get elected.
Everyone knows it is just Republicans that have an extreme wing to their party. This country would be so much better off if the democrats ran the show. Obama owned the House and Senate when he was first elected and the amount of positive legislation that was passed was unsurpassed.
I think if Hillary does run her running mate should be someone sensitive and also minority. I say Jeremiah Wright fits that bill. He is a man of the cloth, loves everyone and would probably help sow up that Christian vote.

"the hateful racist spirit that fuels the GOP base "--more evidence of your non-partisanship
what?
have you seen all of the rhetoric, racist shots, direct and indirect at obama over the years? plus the anti-minority, anti-immigrant stances?
I have said before that the GOP playing the race card is a poor strategy.... and you would think that their base would be against such hateful racism, but they not only accept it but believe in it...
weird how people start attacking the person rather than the view when the view hits too close to home for them to handle

Perhaps I seem anti-democrat here, its easy on one post to assume that I against democrats, but I will assure you that I am a non-partisan independent, and I do call out both sides...
but his logic is not flawed... his idea is that differing parties in the executive and legislative branch historically has been good for the country in terms of prosperity and good supreme court judges...
history show this...
I know that you may wish that things were different, but the reality is that GOP control the legislative branch and do so convincingly....
so with the current set up he is saying that perhaps hillary of a dem president wouldnt be the worst thing...
funny thing is that right we already have a dem president... so technically based on his logic we are set up for great next two years...

Yes Virginia it is ok to to disagree with the fiscal policies from a person of color or Caucasian for that matter. It's not ok to call them a racist when you can't defend those policies without using the race card. That is deemed a desperate and pathetic move.

wow this is getting weird....
seems like bipartisan/non-partisan spirit of canosvp's thread is resulting in some people unraveling today

If I remember correctly Uncle Newty shut the gov't down for a time. Seemed to have worked. Sometimes our political leaders just need a timeout.
The thing I liked about Clinton was there wasn't an industry he was afraid to de-regulate. I got my first business off the ground because he de-regulated the trucking industry. Congress sent him the bills and he signed off on them. That banking one is a little touchy though.

Best post I ever read on covers!!!!!! And if you like your Doctor and plan, - YOU CAN KEEP IT...
If Jeremiah Wright is busy, Reverend Al might be up to the task. He's visited the White House the most over the past 6 years. They passed a partisan healthcare bill damn it. They get things done. We're going to get an immigration plan possibly in the next week or two. No negotiation necessary, Obama has it under control.
And the left actually said Bush was a fascist and taking your rights away. It's awesome looking back at their claims.
I can't talk on the phone anymore KNOWING no one is listening or recording it, I know, it's a matter of national security - yeah right.

We'll dl I was ready to get serious when I saw the words "crazy right wing" and then I needed to respond. As if the left is immune from crazy people. Nancy let's pass it and then we can find out what's in it Pelosi. I could list a million examples of crazy people on both sides.
I think cano is onto something. What got done when the dems owned the gov't for Obama's first year and a half?
The repubs aren't the sharpest crayons in the box either. If they want the White House in 2016 all they have to do is send Obama bills that he will veto. Then they can say he is an obstructionist. If he signs them they can say look at all we accomplished.
We are about to find out if cano's theory will continue to hold true.

Oh and dl I think you need to cut Killer_B some slack. He obviously has a sense of humor like myself. I find you need that when debating with the far left crazies.

funny thing is that even with the humor there was no debate there... like concern to canosvp's logic, what was your point?
other posters talked about their view of the 2016 scenario of a democratic executive branch and a GOP legislative... while others regressed into these weird tangents and posts...
that was weird to me that you didn't debate the topic and instead talking about who know what...

I'm sorry you don't have a sense of humor. Most "non-partisan independents" I know do. It is late so maybe you are just tired.
Go back and read posts 5 and 6 and you will see where it got off track. The topic was the success of a split party gov't.
"The level of craziness and mental retardation that Obama was spawned with the right wingers is unprecedented".
"The hateful racist spirit that fuels the GOP base".
Tell me again how that contributes to the topic? Again how does that contribute to the 2016 election? Are those comments about bipartisan leadership? Those sound like "partisan talking points" to me.
What cracks me up is that you bend over backwards to try and be non-partisan but end up getting sucked right in to being partisan. You really are a funny guy. Just lighten up and go with it.
