Well the premise of the thread is that liberal states cost more to live in. These are a couple of "liberal" states that apparently don't cost as much to live in, since $100 goes further in them compared to the national average. I'm asking the OP if he thinks those are just outliers since they don't fall within his premise. Also, I think the definition of GOP states, as provided by the OP, needs to be narrowed more since a couple of states that have majority Republican lawmakers have gone to the Democratic Party in the last two elections.
I'm quite sure the OP intended for the theme to be a generalization of sorts.
Based on all of the states with negative results ( below 100 ) only one of them ( AK ) is traditionally a GOP state. The other one ( VA ) has been a GOP state but is mostly not.
Washington and Oregon may have misleading results for being negative or close because Washington has no state income tax and Oregon has no sales tax. That may have helped improve the would be numbers if that was not the case.
I promise you that Colorado is not a state like CA or NY. My brother owns a home in CO and my other brother used to own a home in CO and there is nothing similar in demand like CA and NY or more specifically Manhattan.
