This whole shutdown is a massive disaster for the GOP. They shut the government down for 2.5 weeks put nearly 800,000 people out of work and costed the economy billions in productivity and got absolutely nothing from Obama. So much for being all about putting people back to work. Prior to this stunt, Obama wasn't very popular because of the Syria stuff and the GOP gave him a perfect out. Way to go idiots! Same idiot Republican base who consistently nominates the most unelectable people for Senate races in swing states and are shocked when then lose. Same idiots who constantly said that the polls were skewed and no way Obama would win re-election and were actually surprised when he did win and the polls were right.
Realistically Obama was never ever going to eliminate Obamacare in exchange for funding the government. Get real people. He won re-election running on Obamacare and it isn't going anywhere. Polls are strongly blaming the GOP for this and they are right. Think people really believe that the party of "big government" wants to shut down the government? Please get real. Did the Democrats shut down the Government because President Bush wouldn't repeal his tax cuts? No they didn't because they didn't ask President Bush this because it was unrealistic and silly.
Honest question for anyone. Do you believe the GOP gained any political style points for this shutdown? Does it make it more likely that any players in this situation (Cruz, Ryan, Rubio, etc.) can win the White House in 2016? I say no but at this point they'd probably have to have another shutdown in order to lose the House. House likely stays GOP. Cruz helped himself with the party base but has no chance to win the White House in 2016.

Based off of what you posted I'm assuming you are wanting the GOP to win the Presidency in the next election. You sound mad with the route they chose and wanted them to choose a different option. Otherwise if you don't like the GOP the you should be happy with the route they chose since it's making them look bad.Two questions:
1. What legislation should they fight that Obama and the Dems support?
2. Who would you like to run against Hillary/Biden in 2016?

I will say Cruz, Rubio, Lee, Ryan, Rand Paul are much, much better fo rthe country than people like Reid, Obama, Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, Schumer etc Liberalism is a mental disorder and without question they are the enemy within!

@Canovsp - I am mostly liberal so I a part of me is happy to see the GOP epically fail but I also believe in realistic policies that can use bi partisan ideas. In my opinion the GOP should be fighting the Dems and Obama on long term spending reforms, expanding oil & natural gas exploration drilling and what exactly his plan(s) are to get more people back to work and who has the better ideas for that. In other words a positive "this is what we stand for agenda". Sadly for their broad appeal they continue to shoot themselves in the foot with things most people outside of their base could care less about like Benghazi, repealing Obamacare and birth control or "we stand for whatever you don't stand for". As for 2016 I would personally love to see the GOP nominate someone like Cruz or Paul so we can settle this silly argument once and fort all that when a "real conservative" is on the ballot that they will win. They won't. Cruz and Paul are clowns that would be destroyed by Hillary.
@Sundance - way too funny man. In your list of 7 things NONE of them has ANYTHING to do with the government shutdown and 800,000 people temporarily out of work based on political hissy fits that the GOP had. Voters didn't give a shit about the tea party whining last year which included most of your 7 points. Issues like Fast & Furious and Benghazi were clearly used to try and score GOP political points but the majority (as evidenced by the 2012 election where Obama won by 5 million votes, over 100 electoral votes and 8 of 9 swing states) saw Obama as the grown up working to try and solve problems vs.. the child who whined about not getting the toy they wanted Considering the tea party is hovering around a 30% approval rating I can see why most people ignore them. I guess you are one of the 30%.

My point is the ridiculous demonization of the TEA party and Ted Cruz. Cruz was the only "adult in the room" during the half butt negotiations. TEA stands for taxed enough already. 30% is only 7% under Obama's favorable rating. Obama is the most immature President in the history of the US. I do remember him saying "vote with revenge" during the last day of the campaign. Say what!

Cruz the only adult in the room?? Lol. Cruz was a grandstander trying to gin up support for his soon to be Presidential campaign. In the real world 800,000 people were not working during this time and billions in productivity were lost because of this stunt that had no legitimate outcome of happenkng. You in favor of that?
Obama's approve is actually at 43% in the aggregate on Real Clear Politics and that is taking into account joke pollsters like Gallup, YouGuv and (R)asmussen. Not great but compared to 30% for the tea party but is much better.
Given your status as a Presidential Historian and expert since you say Obama is the most immature President who would be the second most immature President and the most mature President?

I can wager my last dollar that I have never stated that I am a Presidential historian. In my lifetime the 2nd most immature President was William Jefferson Clinton. Just ask all of the women he groped. The most mature President in my lifetime was Reagan. He "could and would" handle the "call at 3 am".

We agree on a few things.
The stand that Ted Cruz (and other Republicans) took during the govt shutdown had everything to do with long term spending reforms, including Obamacare.
I agree with oil and natural gas exploration. That will create jobs and lessen our dependence on foreign oil.

The comedy show is the Biden-Clinton tour during the 2016 Democratic primary. They are very lucky that they have a complicit media to protect all of their gaffes. Could really be hilarious.

Polls indicate a majority of Americans approve of Obama handling of this crisis. Most Americans blame Republicans for the shutdown. Also approval rating of Republicans is at its lowest point in 20 years. According to Standard and Ford, GDP growth was slowed by 24 billion dollars. Furthermore, public support for Obamacare has improved.

We won! We won!" is the cry from Democrats and parroted by their MSM collaborators.....
Meanwhile,, the debt just broke the $17 trillion barrier... The official US debt is now $17,075,590,107,963.57, an increase of $327 billion overnight and the Federal Reserve increased its balance sheet By $50 billion in just one week..
...and the Democrat crowd goes wild...
So this assumed victory by the Democrats is what is going to put them over the top in the 2014 election ?
