Not only is voter suppression arguably worse than it was when blacks, women and others couldn't vote, it is a horribly demonstration of the lack of institutional freedom in this country.

Someone convicted of a felony shouldn't lose their right to vote in ANY state..

In Indiana, where the Republican-dominated legislature passed one of the first new ID laws in 2005 (on a straight party-line vote), there had been no known instances of voter impersonation in the state’s history.

So they wasted all this money, time and resource on passing something that there have been no instances of a problem??

if they NEVER had any known instances of voter fraud why would they Spend Spend Spend time, money and resource on the tax payers dime devoted to this???

The article is from last year.The voter id laws did not lead to any "suppression" in the 2012 election, so the article is self-refuting.In fact, there is no evidence that asking for ID to vote decreases turnout.Saying that being asked to provide ID is "suppression" is silly.

Dl36 is right that voter fraud is rare as proven by past investigations.  ID laws discriminate against some people.  Generally, the trend is toward lower voter turnouts in some countries.  Pathetic when a minority elects next government.  Non-voters may believe voting is a waste of time and money.  So governments should be doing more to encourage voting instead of making voting harder.
