Canada has been fortunate in that it has few incidents of direct terrorism. Since much of the global terrorism has a direct correlation to enemies of Israel, they might think differently if they experienced their own 9/11.
It is also worth stating that Canadian public optinion of the United State's response to terrorism has not always been favorable.
In other words, it is easy to be critical when one does not need to engage in such actions that often are in self-defense or self-sustainment.

As an aside, I am not defending all of actions nor all of those if Israel. But there is no steafast and foolproof solution to foreign policy nor defense from terrorist acts.

Let's put it this way. I have more schooling in the field of foregn policy than you have schooling.
It doesn't make me any more or less right, but it does give a fuller understanding of some of the dynamics of these groups.
They are absolutely the enemies of the US. Suggesting otherwise is akin to the idea that Bin Laden was not an enemy of the US.
Bin Laden was nothing until he attacked the US. Nothing. And was Bin Laden ever a suicide bomber? A martyr? In fact, after attacking the US, he became a multi-billionaire with multiple wives, and an army of foot soldiers. Many of the terrorists organizations exist solely for the benefit of the few at the top who live lives of luxury by raising money under the guise a common enemy. They are nothing more than mercenaries. We have obtained so much information over the years by using the common dollar. The saddest part is they use young kids to carry out the dirty work.
Its no different than these violent revolutions that change nothing in terms of government except giving power to those in charge.

You can make statements like "different waves of terrorism" but it means absolutely nothing.
Terrorism is such a broad spectrum. It can define whoever or whomever we choose it defines. Generally speaking, terrorists are considered threats to America either directly or indirectly, to American interests.
Suggesting that Hezbollah is not a threat to America is really a sad statement, one either of ignorance to history or indifference to those Americans killed by them.
The victims of Hezbollah actions, much to your dismay, have been far more than innocent Jewish people.
One also might wonder what you mean by threat? Was Al Qaeda a direct threat to the US before 1993? Do you determine a direct threat only if it reaches our soil?
And if you read my essay above, I was suggesting just the opposite about the wealth/education/organization of terrorists...or at least those that profit. Bin Ladin is my perfect example. Notice how you could not answer my comments about his wealth.
Many, if not most, terrorist organizations fundamental makeup is the same. Wealth and power at the top, with the actions carried out by the poor and uneducated. For all the talk about an agenda behind the actions, the sad reality is, for the most part, they are simply a business...with the business being the profit for the few at the expense of the innocent and the actors.
Someone who is anti-semetic or who wants to blame Israel or the US for the actions of so-called terrorists, would never understand the above.

Two embassy bombings, hijackings, killing of American personnel...the list goes on and on.
The problem is that people like the poster you are responding to blame the US instead of the terrorist organization, so they will never equate them as an 'enemy' so to speak.

Rapaport has some good pieces and has a solid understanding of the makeup of terrorist organizations.
The funny thing is you cite an article that not only is the antithesis of your beliefs about Israel, the US, and terrorism (Rapaport himself says that such organizations are the enemy of the US), but that does not offer a modern assessment of today's organizations. The different waves is an assessment of its history. If you are respecting the author for his knowledge, try either of these.

And notice how you did not answer my question about Al Qaeda being an immediate threat before 1993. Do you know why you didn't?
A threat to our troops overseas IS a threat to the US security and interests. Do you understand why or does it need to be spelled out?
Oh, and nowhere have I said that every terrorist is a threat to the US, although I do agree with Kap that the mentality of those that engage in terrorism itself posses a danger. The single biggest reason is exactly as I said before. They are more often mercenaries for hire than not. With enough money, resources, and support, they can be direct dangers.
