http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/iraq-war-vet-letter-bush-cheney-tomas-young-154541674.html

"I write this letter, my last letter, to you, Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney," Young wrote in the letter published on Truthdig.com. "I write not because I think you grasp the terrible human and moral consequences of your lies, manipulation and thirst for wealth and power. I write this letter because, before my own death, I want to make it clear that I, and hundreds of thousands of my fellow veterans, along with millions of my fellow citizens, along with hundreds of millions more in Iraq and the Middle East, know fully who you are and what you have done. You may evade justice but in our eyes you are each guilty of egregious war crimes, of plunder and, finally, of murder, including the murder of thousands of young Americans—my fellow veterans—whose future you stole."

Young believes he was injured fighting the wrong war:

I would not be writing this letter if I had been wounded fighting in Afghanistan against those forces that carried out the attacks of 9/11. Had I been wounded there I would still be miserable because of my physical deterioration and imminent death, but I would at least have the comfort of knowing that my injuries were a consequence of my own decision to defend the country I love. I would not have to lie in my bed, my body filled with painkillers, my life ebbing away, and deal with the fact that hundreds of thousands of human beings, including children, including myself, were sacrificed by you for little more than the greed of oil companies, for your alliance with the oil sheiks in Saudi Arabia, and your insane visions of empire.

If there is a Hell, Bush and Cheney should certainly receive front row seats.

On November 11, 2005 Bush said:

“When I made the decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power congress approved it with strong bi-partisan support… While it is perfectly legitimate to criticize the decision or the conduct of the war it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history on how the war began.”

If a thousand threads are created questioning how we got into Iraq I'm going to post this a thousand times. And if someone challenges this I'm going to post comments by the Left before the war started.

I am kind of mad that Rumsfeld did not make the list.

The word war criminal has been overused and obfuscated.

There is a long list of people who's dishonesty/ false testimony / outright Lies have bordered on treason.  Just as sandy hook was used in an attempt to further an agenda.  9/11 was used in an attempt to further neocon agendas.
-Cheeney
-Bush
-Powell
-Rice
-Rumsfeld
-Rove
Feel free to add your own favorites.

I know how this guy feels (not personally), but have witnessed this war destroy good men physically and mentally.

“The risk of the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.”

and

“He (Saddam Hussein) will rebuild his arsenal of weapons of mass destruction, and some day, some way, I’m certain he will use that arsenal again as he has ten times since 1983.”

After what happened in the past you didn't believe those comments about Saddam Hussein and Iraq?

Yes, Rumsfeld also belongs on the Hell list.

I can't blame Powell.  From what I have researched, he honestly believed the falsified intelligence information his bosses provided.  He got sucked in just like everybody else did prewar.

Not sure about Rove or Rice.  My inclination is that they probably didn't know prewar either.  Non-essential personnel.

Those quotes were made YEARS PRIOR to the attacks in 2001 and should have had no bearing on retaliation for 9/11 since Iraq was not involved in the 9/11 attacks.

Why anyone would want to enlist anymore is just beyond me.....

I quit believing in this Govt when LBJ invented the Tonkin gulf.....those shots fired on NOV 22nd 63 still ring out today!

dont just pick on the right side side of the aisle....there is more than enough graft and corruption on both sides to sink this country

grrrrrrrrr

bring all those troops home.....let the MIddle East destroy themselves.....   the Saudis..what a joke....no wonder most hate us around the world!!!!    why would Israel trust us....majority of the people in the USA dont trust their own govt!!!!

I don't think many will look back (including me) and say that the war went well. But for politicians and citizens to say he LIED about the reasons of going into Iraq is what has always gotten under my skin.

Hindsight is always 20/20. How many politicians, citizens, and media personnel were screaming the information was lies before we went into Iraq?

What information was lies (I've also seen the term cherry picked) by the Bush Admin?

That Iraq had WMD’s?

That Iraq was trying to re-establish their nuclear weapons program?

(Note, no one denied they had one)

That their arsenal of chemical and biological weapons were

unaccounted for (violation of UN Sanctions)

That Iraq had long range missiles (Violation of UN Sanctions)

I am never going to defend the lives we lost or the money we spent and still spend there. The only angle I argue for the admin, and always will argue, are the reasons we got into it in the first place.

If the reasons listed above weren't good enough reasons then that should have been argued at the time. Instead, politicians and media type waited until it went south and started screaming "Bush Lied."

there were apparently 7 republicans who were against the war.  i posted an article in another thread.  of course, they've been mostly ostracized since then but they deserve a lot of credit for that.

Why even try to defend Bush/Cheney?

Its a joke to even try to insinuate that they really thought Saddam was involved with 9-11 or was anything more than a regional thug.

If we were going after regional thugs because they might at some future point be a threat to the US, I think Saddam would be like 10th on the list.

Saddam made CIA Bush look foolish, the rest is history..

I could write forever about GWB & Cheney's lies.

Here are just a few gems...

"Evidence from intelligence sources, secret communications and statements by people now in custody reveal that Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists, including members of Al Qaida."
GWB, State of the Union Address 1/03

Fact: To date, not a shred of evidence connecting Hussein with Al Qaida or any other known terrorist organizations have been revealed.

"The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."
GWB, State of the Union Address 1/03

Fact: The documents implied were known at the time by Bush to be forged and not credible.

"Our intelligence sources tell us that he (Saddam) has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production."
GWB, State of the Union Address 1/03

Fact: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well as dozens of leading scientists declared said tubes unsuitable for nuclear weapons production -- months before the war.

"We know he's been absolutely devoted to trying to acquire nuclear weapons, and we believe he has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons."
Cheney on Meet the Press 3/16/03

Fact:
The IAEA in a report to the UN Security Council on 3/7/03 stated they had found "no evidence or plausible indication of the revival of a nuclear weapons program in Iraq."

They never claimed Iraq or Saddam Hussein had anything to do with 9/11.

They did claim Iraq was harboring terrorist/al qaeda, al-zarqawi being the most infamous

Another lie... Abu Musab al-Zarqawi
was not yet working with Al Qaeda.  The earliest connection they can draw between al-Zarqawi and Saddam is several months AFTER the US lead UN invasion of Iraq.

Young—who suffered an anoxic brain injury in 2008—said he had been contemplating "conventional" suicide, but decided to go on hospice care, "stop feeding and fade away."

"This way, instead of committing the conventional suicide and I am out of the picture, people have a way to stop by or call and say their goodbyes," Young said. "I felt this was a fairer way to treat people than to just go out with a note."

Much respect for this guy.  It saves friends and family the agony of not knowing what he was thinking.  Anybody that would simply put a weapon to their head is a coward.

RIP

We are going to go round and round not swaying each other but I'm sticking to my guns.

Point #1: Bush must have been a prophet. It was written "there was no evidence al qaeda was in Iraq and no evidence al-zarqawi was a member" and yet when we went in he was there and he was a member of al qaeda by the time he was killed.

Point #2: Iraq seeking uranium wasn't true and Bush knew it wasn't true. How can it be proven Bush knew it was false?

Point #3: By the IAEA stating said aluminum tubes were unsuitable for nuclear weapons production proves Hussein was trying to implement a nuclear weapons program. He just didn't have the right equipment.

Either the CIA, military intelligence, NSA, or some other organizations gave the President bad info or he was just making it up. How can it be proven the info was bad or he was making it up?

War criminals, pure & simple. Should be behind bars & they know it. They knowingly packaged a fraudulent case for bombing & invasion with little to no exit strategy.

It's amazing & sad how many repubs still defend &/or need to defend these guys in regards to Iraq.

People really need to learn history. While you can argue that the CIA and other intelligence reports (including those of every major foreign intelligence agency) were wrong, to say Bush/Cheney went to war for profit, oil or whatever trumped up liberal non-sense is just asinine. If Bush is a war criminal you better seek out Clinton and Obama too. Can't have it both ways no matter how blind by your party you are.

If you really want to take it a step further Bush inherited Clinton's foreign policy effort of trying to remove Hussein. Educate yourselves people. Read up on Operation Desert Fox and th 1998 Iraq Liberation Act.

I stated earlier I will defend the actions pre-dating going into Iraq but not the lives we wasted, the money we spent, or the lack of an exit strategy.

"Knowingly packaged a fraudulent case" is a matter of opinion. Even the info Goose came back with is speculation that I'm assuming somebody from the media came up with. Maybe it was al-jazeera.

If any of that could be proven Bush and Cheney would be hanged. There are millions of people throughout the world that would love to be able to prove it. Powerful people at the UN and other foreign governments. I would think by now if those people had anything there would be another Nuremberg. What I hear from liberals is Bush is so dumb he wouldn't be smart enough to cover something like that up.
