#1 Posted: 3/6/2013 5:04:14 PM WOW!! Killing it.
Sen. Rand Paul launched into an old-fashioned filibuster on the Senate floor Wednesday as he tried to hold up the nomination of John Brennan for CIA director over concerns about the president’s authority to kill Americans with drones.
Paul, R-Ky., is one of several lawmakers – on both sides of the aisle – who has raised concerns about the legal justification for launching drone strikes against Americans overseas. But Paul took to the floor after receiving a statement from Attorney General Eric Holder that creaked open the door to the possibility of using a drone to kill an American inside the United States.
“To allow one man to accuse you in secret -- you never get notified you've been accused,” Paul said on the floor. “Your notification is the buzz of propellers on the drone as it flies overhead in the seconds before you're killed. Is that what we really want from our government?”
Paul said he’d be raising the same complaints under a Republican president.
“No one politician should be allowed to judge the guilt, to charge an individual, to judge the guilt of an individual and to execute an individual. It goes against everything that we fundamentally believe in our country,” he said.

#2 Posted: 3/6/2013 5:05:30 PM Senator Paul is on the Senate floor quoting Hayek, Montesquieu, Glenn Greenwald and an author at liberal blog FireDogLake in his effort to prevent Brennan's nomination from going through. He says he will not stop until President Obama confirms that drones will not be used to target Americans on American soil. |

#10 Posted: 3/6/2013 7:17:24 PM i wouldn't expect much traction here. you know what this is about. those companies don't make those drones just so they can sit in a hangar and collect dust. there's money to be made.
The U.S. is likely to account for 77% of global UAS research and
development and 64% of procurement over the next decade. U.S. firms have
more than 50% of the market by value and could seize another 5% to 10%
over the next 10 years. However, export controls may hamper overseas
sales of U.S. UAS equipment. Some U.S. firms may sell basic platforms
and allow customers to integrate their own sensor equipment.
The total UAS market (air vehicles, ground control equipment and payloads) is expected to be worth $55 billion through 2020.

No what this is about is the Obama administration refusal to say if killing Americans on American soil without due process is Constitutional or not. They refuse to answer that question. This has nothing to do with Brennan and Rand Paul has stated so many times today during the fillibuster. |

#13 Posted: 3/6/2013 7:32:51 PM The Department of homeland security also bought 2700 armored vehicles that are bullet proof and mine proof. I wonder why they need those? http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2013/03/what_does_dhs_need_with_2700_armored_vehicles.html

#14 Posted: 3/6/2013 7:37:06 PM i disagree. filibusters, this politician says he's conservative, this one says whatever else. it's all a sideshow. the money behind these names is what matters and a $55 billion industry is not going away because some politician pretends to care about some (but not other) nameless people getting killed.

#15 Posted: 3/6/2013 7:41:46 PM You obviously haven't been listening to the filibuster.
This is ALL about Obama/Holder not upholding the constitution. |

#16 Posted: 3/6/2013 7:58:42 PM i haven't listened to the filibuster. i don't get too fired up when politicians talk about the constitution. everyone loves it when they can interpret it to fit their interests but they ignore it when it doesn't. cops garbage on the constitution every day but the more people who get arrested, the more people in the system, the bigger government gets and if there is one thing all politicians love, it's big government.

So pathetic that Senate Dems aren't lining up demanding Obama provide this simple clarification about killing Americans on American soil.
