Walmart has totally destroyed small business owners.

Gotta love the one fact which i had already seen before, where the ceo makes more in 1 hour then a walmart workers makes all year

rooster - cd .....   I REFUSE to enter that store..haven't in over 7 years and seldom did prior (only emergencies) ....there ARE other places to buy most of what they have in that store. 

I would substitute choice for luxury rooster

I'm calling bullshit here. I've always been the first to say that you vote with your dollars. They mean so much more then your silly vote on election day, which means nothing. So for those of us that choose not to participate, how do we avoid our money padding WMT profits via theft from my paycheck? I mean, i bought and sold some wmt stock, which i figured i'd get in it for the divi to recoop my losses on funding their biz plan, however after reading some articles about their practices (more so foreign) i decided to bail and take my profits. besides i want nothing to do with the wall st scam artists

walmart lobbies to have fed tax dollars subsidize their employees so they can pay them as cheap as possible. I don't care about a business paying minimum wage for simplistic work, i do mind when they want to use the government to pick my pocket in order to further enhance their own profits. That and everything they sell is cheap crap, and they play the game like any other retailer and while they do claim lowest prices, they are often more expensive on many other items. Their customer base is just too lazy to care, and why shouldn't they be, they're not spending their own hard earned monies, they're spending mine!!

When we buy stuff made by people working for slave labor wages in China, we destroy good paying American jobs and we make America poorer.  This is a point that I have tried to makeover and over.

At least they are placing the blame on the consumer for making the decision. But what of all the union and non union pensioneers? They own all of these global corporations via their pensions and other benefit plans. The lie is that corporations are not people,,,,well then, what are they? They are made up of individuals that own shares in their company, so corporations ARE people

If it were up to me, i would apply a modern day application of Silvio Geselles 'money supply tax'. First, it would put an end to all income taxes, so we the taxpayer would regain many freedoms with the abolishment of the IRS, and the economy would get a boom because everyone would get to keep what they earn. Then, the government would simply print freshly minted currency to buy gov bonds at 0% to fund the governments actions. Local governments could fund themselves via land value taxation, seeing as how it is the only tax taht not only doesn't negatively distort economic activity, it can be coupled with a citizens dividend and be a boost to the lowest spectrum of the economic participants. It's the most egalitarian way for a government to be involved in resources, and inherently is much more kind to the environment then any of the current political paradigms. but that's just me,,,,,,

Walmart suceeds because of its price and convenience of one-stop shopping. It is understandable why a family would shop there, especially considering the amount of families where expenses exceed income.

So what would happen if an import tax on companies like Walmart was implemented?

If Walmart passed the costs on to the consumer, it would lose its price advantage, thereby impacting its business.

If Walmart found other methods of absorbing the price, it would not.

So,what about the Walmart executives who make their business decisions ? Are they culpable ?
Don't they have a choice of modelling ?
Is their ruthlessness to insure themselves profits more "American" or less blameworthy than any American citizen who shops there for convenience and usually without knowledge of the overall business practices / tactics being utilized ??

Reminds me of the conundrum with food.People sell crap that they know isn't healthy,and uninformed consumers buy and eat without realizing how deleterious the food / non-food truly is. But,they need to feed their family and themselves,so,they trust the industry and usually eat whatever and from wherever is most convenient.

Too often our long-term goals are sacrificed for the potential of short-term gains.

Why should anybody pay more for a product they can get cheaper down the street at Wallmart?  If the price difference was negligible like 3 pennies then I'll just buy product A wherever but if we're talking about a couple hundred dollar price differential, I'm kicking the small business to the curb and going to Walmart to buy product A.  End of story.

I agree with AHD. And Wallyworld sells alot of American made products besides the foreign ones.

People that despise walmart are just ignorant poop heads.

Why should I as a consumer have to run around to 12 mom and pop shops to fullfil my needs as a consumer when I can just pop into one wallyworld and save time and markup?

really...is there ONE product where WalMart is $200 cheaper than another store?  ...or even $100 ????? ....wasn't aware that Wally World even had that many products over 200 bucks

Does it really matter where you procure your Chinese goods as long as they come from China?
