I can't help but wonder if the cries to exhume Arafat's corpse is a witch hunt to pin his death on Israel. Even if the tests for poisoning turn up positive, no proof will exist to link his death with the Israeli government.
Considering the majority of Palestinians live in poverty, wouldn't the money of Suha Arafat and the PLO be better spent helping the people of Palestine? |

It's funny how threads sometimes take on a life of their own. I'm claiming diplomatic immunity on this one. |

I meant the exhumation, not the thread.
With that being said... |

#11 Posted: 7/9/2012 11:06:58 PM In reality the death of Yasser Arafat was a case of good riddance. He was very lucky that Israel allowed him to live 75years. ########################################
. With the total breakdown of the ceasefire that had come with the
latest "road map", and a resumption of the suicide bombings, the
Israeli government announced its intention to "remove" Arafat, this
"absolute obstacle to any attempt at reconciliation between Palestinians
and Israelis." ########################################
In the summer of 2002, Bush pronounced Arafat unfit to rule - as
"irrelevant", in other words, as Sharon said he was - and a prime
target, along with Saddam Hussein, for those "regime changes" which Bush
now envisaged across much of the Middle East.

#12 Posted: 7/9/2012 11:15:42 PM I keep a pretty moderate position in this fight, although have some Israeli sympathies.
With that being said, Sharon was only one step below Arafat as an obstacle to peace.
No doubt Arafat become more militant in the later 90s and beyond. One question is whether Sharon drove him in that direction.
I can say that Sharon was never popular with any of the State Departments, even dating back to Reagan.
Ron Paul's crowd even back then hated the guy. Clinton did too. Bush tolerated him, barely. |

#13 Posted: 7/10/2012 12:20:20 AM I saw an interview of top tier Mossad officials and they sounded pretty insincere. I can't say for sure whether they were lying, but it is very possible.
They did mention something about trying to find the same radioactive isotope that killed the Russian fellow. Apparently, the symptoms were similar in nature to radiation poisoning.
