yes the popular vote was close, but guess what, the president is not elected on the popular vote.  electoral college was about a 100 vote difference, texas had 24 votes, losing texas, jfk still wins handily.

but i know what you were trying to say, my personal opinion is a vp wont make a big improvement but the wrong vp can be a big negative.

if i remember correctly, mccain was trailing by a descent amount (maybe 53-47?) before naming palin, and then surged ahead, before ultimately 'falling apart'.

i think mccain failed to fully vet palin, and just saw all her positives, and maybe tried to swing for the fences.

i also dont remember anyone saying they wouldnt vote for obama unless he had a good foreign policy vp.  on a side note, if biden was so good, where has he been the last few years?

One last comment on the 1960 election...

steve is correct, Nixon had a habit of flapping his lips before digesting his thoughts.  The biggest of many blunders by Nixon was a statement that he "would include a black appointee to his cabinet".  As you can imagine, this infuriated Southern voters (again, we are talking 1960 here) and with Texan LBJ on the ticket, Kennedy was able to pocket some key Southern States.

BTW, the controversial mini-series about the Kennedys will be airing beginning in Early April.  Should be excellent with Kinard playing the role of JFK and Katie Holmes cast as Jackie Kennedy.

"Part of the beauty of me is that I'm very rich," Trump explained.

  That is awesome.

goose,  so katie holmes gets all of jfk's std's from his innumerable liasons(quote"i knew there would be other women but i had no idea there would be so many") which kind of rivals real life but tom's not playing for the home team.

remember the big nixon/kennedy debate where nixon sounded better to radio folks but got destroyed because of his tv persona.

i dont think one could discount illinois being hand delivered by the mafia connections from kennedy sr.

as far as that consummate cocksucker LBJ, no question theres no win without him,  or the media for that matter.

drJ,

So you see Paul as a viable candidate?

How about Trump or Palin?

trump...narcissist...egomaniac....lose
Paul, more than ever but i suspect the nation is still 5-10 yrs too immature to understand he could potentially save us from certain fiscal demise.

I actually think in the end being a birther is a kiss of death...

It is a polarizing issue that gains you no ground...  Anyone that believes that Obama was born int he US will be turned off by trump siding with birthers...

And obama whining teaparty/birthers will voe against Obama not matter who runs against him...

So since majority of the country views birthers as internet conspiracy theory psychos... this does not help

From the article ....Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney "doesn't seem to resonate," Trump said on TV on ABC's "Good Morning America,"

The original link calls Trump a TV reality star .......

Saying that Tea Party are the same is incorrect ....Despite both being on the right wing of the Republican party, the Tea Party and the birthers are not the same thing at all ............there's friction between birthers and the Tea Party people ...

Birthers are not welcomed at the Tea Party. ...as well as RINO Republicans who have tried to highjack the Party ...Tea Party groups have denounced talk of Obama’s birth certificate.

As far as Trump he probably wont run for President so he say's whatever he thinks will give him attention ..he's a salemen he's just douing what he always does selling himself so he can make a deal to make money later ..

Until people take Ron Paul seriously we are screwed!  Repubs and Dems are both on the take.  Get out of other peoples business and take care of our own.  All of this garbage is about oil.  These countries have no choice but to sell it.  Corn, wheat and sugar is a whole different story.  You can't eat oil.  Remember Cheveron is owned by Chavez.  Either way they have to sell it one way or the other.  Speculaters are the problem in my opinion.  Realistically several years away from green energy.  Let the flogging commence.
