a great job running that business, lets give them the whole heathcare system to run now. Really what is the matter with all these liberals who just cant seem to understand this. Its not like its brain surgery, its just plain common sense. Govt cant run business, get that thru your think heads.
My God you have to be completely brain dead to even think our govt will be able to run the healthcare system and save money
The amount of money the govt is gonna lose running the system is going to dwarf any increase the insurance idustry was going to charge people.
Taxpayers are going to get this one stuck up their asses bigtime. In the end there will be no savings, only much higher taxes to pay for this crap. In a few years all you bigtime liberals will be throwing up when you start getting hit with higher tax bills.

the 3.8b is mostly from postal worker pension payments
their day to day ops broke roughly even
amazing that they can still charge only 45 cents for me to mail something from NJ to alaska
KOAJ, If any of those health bills pass our country is screwed bigtime. Health insurance will endup costing more then what insurance companies charge. Taxes will go thru the roof. Mark my words at some point people will be wishing that they could have just paid the insurance company premium hikes instead of the higher taxes.

KOAJ is right. The lost money is mostly due to unionized gains. had the government restricted the union goals...
Someone in the forum used to support unions. Can't remember who.
That would be me and i still support them. You really dont want to go this route mr lawyer with me, cause i can write a book on how lawyers have screwed and raped our country over. Lawyers make union members look like angels

Its the classic case of a no-win for the government. We pay (proportionally) among the lowest rates (for postage) in the world. If they raise prices, its "can you believe they rasied the prices" and if they don't, they suffer. All that being said, there is a very powerful lobby group in this area that keeps artificial prices low. Anyone want to take a gander (hint: US gets more of this than any other country).

some institute of junk mail,,,,,catalogs? magazines?
I thought the post office was 'supposed' to be a self sustaining gov't operation, in that they didn't just run at insane deficits and have taxpayer piggy bank to gorge??
One things for sure, stamp prices will be going up, i'm thinking of changing my investment strategy to Forever Stamps as an inflation hedge
Is the post office suffering more because of email and electronic billing, OR is this a case of overcapacity and now that the average american went from recieving 3 or 4 credit card harrasments i mean offers in the mail daily, down to just one last letter from the cc company telling them the dry anal raping is coming. I for one am very happy with the drop in junk mail, good for the environment to go from 1000 CC offers a year to Zero

junk mail is extremely beneficial to the postal service. i hate getting it also but it is a HUGE reason why costs are kept down
Exactly. Junk and direct mail. Now everyone here realizes that most politicians, businesses, etc. use a direct mail service, right? Those services run at insanely low overheads and much of their money is spent making sure that postages prices stay low.
