#5 Posted: 7/2/2008 5:15:39 AM Looking forward to this one. As Second noted, big games are won in the forwards and the halves, where QLD are clearly superior in both - I agree completely. But I do think NSW can win, albeit only if a few things go their way.
The refereeing in game 1 suited their game plan, hence they won. I'm not going to get into bashing referees, because clearly they get a directive and you'd think that professional footballers would be able to adapt if the officials aren't going to play along. Game 1 Archer held a short 10, allowed the markers to move quickly and NSW were able to smother QLD out of it.
Realising that this style of play negated their obvious backline advantage, QLD campaigned hard for the refs to crack down on NSW's quick line speed and slow rucks. Archer obliged and QLD's vastly superior backline, in particular Inglis and Thurston, ran riot. After watching game 2 it is hardly surprising why Bellamy played game 1 as he did.
Onto game 3, and as much as I hate to say it, this game - for NSW at least, will be greatly influenced by the refs interpretation of the rules. A repeat of game 1 and NSW are up to their ears in it. A repeat of game 2 and NSW are in trouble.
Whilst I wasn't a fan of Pearce's selection, his combination with Anasta will at least give the NSW side an attacking kicking game, something they lacked dearly in game 2. In fact, NSW didn't look like scoring in that game, so at least a variety of attacking kicking options and the bounce of the ball might help them cross the stripe.
Should be a great game, and as a Novocastrian I'd love to see Bedsy go out as he deserves.

#6 Posted: 7/2/2008 6:14:39 AM all the money is flooding in for QLD, bloody suckers way to go donating to their bookies. Mate to me with QLD form in sydney and bedsy's farewell the price should be NSW 1.95 and QLD 1.85 imo so we are getting good value. I've waited for the money to come in for QLD and got better odds with the blues.

#10 Posted: 7/2/2008 7:05:47 AM yeah xcrap, actually factored in the Titans SOO reps and the risk of them not backing up and thought Manly were value at that price, although I would never wish a broken arm upon Prince. That guy has been absolutely ripped by injuries, devastating for him |

#11 Posted: 7/2/2008 7:07:09 AM Not trying to blow my own horn, but I suggested that Gidley should be picked at fullback. He has started there and IMO has been NSW best tonight... |

Why he was picked, why he was retained......
I'll never know. The guy is a grade one wanker and if Bellamy had any balls he would have been hooked in the first half. |

NotA, as a New South Welshman I can't stand the guy - the longer Ricky Stuart leaves him as captain of his club the bigger his joke will become. |

Bad luck battla. I'm a Queenslan fan, but had NSW +12.5 cause I'm a conservative farker and wanted to enjoy what was always going to be a grind.
I am a novice, but really think that Bellamy had a lot to do with that loss (yes, I agree, he is an amazing coach). Anasta and Pearce kicking to the air all game long - ummm, Qld has some pretty effective boys in the air. Also, feel that Bedsy was benched for too great a period in the second half - to ask him to come back on and guide the team with 15mins left and Qld having gained the ascendancy just wasn't fair, NSW were lost without his direction. And why?....to somehow make a spot for Stewart, silly reason when Bedsy and Gidley were carving Qld together in the first half.
Anyway, I still believe that the Anasta / Pearce combination has been overhyped, and sorry HOH but I just don't see why the Roosters are second favourite in premiership betting. A team of superstars not a superstar team, and I believe this will be found out by Manly, Melbourne and maybe even Cronulla come finals time. |

#24 Posted: 7/2/2008 8:22:46 AM NSW just had nothing in attack. They were the dominant team the whole game, yet only scored one try. In the last 20 minutes NSW needed a spark, a gamebreaker, who was going to step up? Thurston did for QLD, nobody looked like doing it for NSW. Pearce is a one-dimensional kcker. Monaghan and Hayne saw no ball. I would have backed Hayne getting around Boyd once, but was never given the oppurtunity. Quinn was terrible in defence, but quite solid with the ball
Players who should never be picked again - Gallen, Mason, White, Pearce (until he gets more weapons into his game)
People who should go to Centrelink tomorrow - Bob McCarthy, Laurie Daley, Bob Fulton
Qld supporters would amount they weren't the better team, but they'll take the win. They were a totally different team when Civo and Price were on the park

#25 Posted: 7/2/2008 8:31:34 AM Gun7, he had Monaghan on the right whose strength is in the air. We saw it worked once when he outleaped Inglis, but the whole night the kicks were the same. Never went through the hands and challenged them at all. Kicking is Pearce strength, thats all the Roosters do. NSW needed a multi-dimensional half. They should have looked at guys like Carney or Orford. People bag Orford, but every season his teams are top 4
They kicked a bomb out on the full, next set Qld score.
Buderus had to come off. He is no longer an 80 minute player at this level. Stewart was wasted off the bench. Next year Farah is first man picked and they should carry 4 forwards off the bench.
