That's just not true. In fact, these very Tigers were ice cold at the start of the 2006 World Series after waiting around for a week following the ALCS. (It also happened to the Rockies in 2007) Now, Leyland realized that, and utilized a plan this time around in hopes of preventing it from happening again - scrimages with minor leaguers. Nonethess, losing momentum from too much rest is a serious concern.

#28 Posted: 10/24/2012 3:51:40 PM I'm changing me bet!!! I can't bet against Verlander unless I could somehow get Zito +200 (: ... Tigers and under 6 1/2 locked in!!! Hope Tigers don't score too many runs tonight.. I have a feeling I won't have to worry about Mr. Verlander!!!! |

#29 Posted: 10/24/2012 4:04:42 PM Detroit will not miss those over the middle 85 mph pithches St.Louis missed from Zito.Zito my friend is on borrowed time, this is where the buck stops.I don't like the money line on Verlander and with SF's bullpen I don't like the RL,so its Verlander and Detroit -170. |

#30 Posted: 10/24/2012 4:06:44 PM ZooLander is such a beast I don't think anyone is gonna get rich
constantly going against him. That said I'm not a huge fan of the DET
offense on the road. In 6 playoff games they've averaged 3.6 per game
and in the L6 of the regular season which were also all on the road they
averaged 3.16 per game or 3.36 L11 road games. And yes they have the
3rd ranked offense but those numbers are boosted against righties and/or
at home. Tonight they get a pretty hot lefty in Zito in a pitchers park
on the road. Overall on the year they scored 4.08 on the road but they
didn't play 81 games at AT&T.
At home this season SFG scored a respectable 3.86. And that number
has jumped considerably during the post season with SFG plating 4.66 per
game in SF and if you take out the 0 and the 2 against CINCY they've
scored 6.5 per game L4 at home. Not saying they're gonna get that
tonight against the best pitcher on earth (at least my pick if I had a
one game winner take all) but I think they can muster enough to get the
win at least 40% of the time which at this healthy dog tag would be
enough to earn some ends.
Gonna watch some footy and think this one over a bit I'll start with a
few plays on the pitch to SFG +1.5 or +2.5 tonight and hopefully use
these early soccer games to help bust up the vig on those RL +?? plays
since they're a lil steep S.U |

#32 Posted: 10/24/2012 4:33:19 PM It's tough to bet against Verlander with his dominant pitching in these playoffs. However, Zito hasn't pitched too bad himself and his team has a 13-0 record in his last 13 outings which is hard to bet against. There's something to be said about momentum and I think this carries into game 1 with the Giants winning outright in a close one. Not sure about the under/over but I like the GIANTS (M/L) in Game 1. |

#33 Posted: 10/24/2012 4:41:54 PM I would have never thought in a million years any team could win 13 straight games with the Zito of the last few years starting. That means it will probably be 14 straight after tonight. |

#36 Posted: 10/24/2012 6:14:20 PM My money's on a Detroit Tiger ball club that's far from being "cold". They won their division by going 18-5 down the stretch, dispatched Oakland in 5 games, and swept the NY Yankees.
Obviously, the key to the run is a starting rotation led by Verlander who enters this game on a 7-0 personal run and a sub 1.00 ERA. I'm pounding Detroit tonight.

#37 Posted: 10/24/2012 6:22:00 PM I'm going to fade the pub on this one and go with AT&T Park and the Giants.
Riding the trend that Zito's won his last 13 games... that's nuts. It's like the Giants rally behind him. Even then, one thing I noticed was that hard throwing doesn't mean that Verlander is going to SO Giants hitters left and right. Boggs or Motte, in the STL bullpen were pitching 90-100+ and giants were still hitting.
I'm going to lean with the Giants on this one and take the odds. You know, they do overcome "odds" if you've been watching.

At these odds (DET -165 & SFG +155) the Tigers would need to win more than 60 percent of the time to earn their backers ends. Conversely SF would only need to win a lil less than 40% of the matchups.
it should be a gooder.

#42 Posted: 10/24/2012 7:05:15 PM Verlander is a God. Believe Tigers have much better hitting than Giants. Hate betting on something that seems too easy but I can't see SF beating Verlander.
Tigers ML/Under 6.5
Under 3.5 first 5 innings. |

SF is riding high and Detroit has not played in a week. Verlander is a very good pitcher but SF easily has the best bullpen in this series. Watch for SF to take a lot of pitches and get Verlander out around 6-7 inning. Bullpens take over than it's over.

#45 Posted: 10/24/2012 7:22:56 PM Sorry but contrary to an earlier post, the players do not continue to play AAA ball while they wait for a series to be over. Seriously I really hope that guy was joking.
With that being said, it is a big number with a team on the road after laying off for a week but it is Verlander so I am going with the Tigers -1.5 runs for even money |

He was due for a garbage start about 12 ago. I'd rather ride the trend than buck it....BOL

#48 Posted: 10/24/2012 7:30:06 PM Giants momentum is scary, but still like Verlander and the Tigers tonight and in the series.
Like the Under a lot too, as the Tigers don't kill lefties and hit a little less on the road (still like them in the game due to Verlander though)
Tigers and Under! Should be a crazy game! |

#50 Posted: 10/24/2012 8:07:21 PM Taking the Giants tonight. Too much value with the hot home team to go the other way...Verlander or not. He doesn't win every game he pitches...just saying.
Giants +155 GL to all!!! |
