Everyone repeat after me . . . . "Always bet AGAINST the Clippers".
As a so-cal local for the past 16 years I can't help but hope the best for Angeles Clippers every year, but believe me, as long as this team is the property of one Donald T. Sterling it will always be nothing more than a tax right off and consequently, a loser.
And THIS season's editon is just another version of the same set of "promising talent" that never comes to fruition, only this particular team is worse, especially right now because of injuries and a lack of practice time as a unit.
In addition, they managed to let go of the one guy who probably had the best basketball mind of anyone in the organization, Elgin Baylor, who continually brought exceptional talent into this town, year after year, only to see it go unsigned and wasted.
They made a huge off-season score in bringing in Baron Davis but, no one, including Davis himself, bothered to think about the fact that they've paired him up with a coach who's philosophy is the exact opposite of his playing style. Predictably, Davis is struggling in this offense and being held back by Dunleavy who's got a thicker playbook than most NBA coaches and won't let him do what he does best - RUN!
If Davis was a younger dude I'd say give them time to work it out, but he's not. It's a nice homecoming but Baron Davis is quickly learning what life is like as the "other team" that plays in the Staples Center. Which is exactly why Elton Brand finally left town.
San Antonio is down right now but they're still managing to win games with their defense against inferior teams, and believe me, the Los Angeles Clippers are the inferior team here. They don't score any more points a game than the depleted Spurs and except for Marcus Camby, they don't play the same kind of defense.
The Clippers are near or in the bottom of almost every statistical category and their 2nd unit is the worst in the Western Conference.
They did manage to beat Dallas a few days ago (3-7 Dallas that is) and you know, hope always springs eternal.
But you see, that right there is the problem with being a Clipper fan, and handicappers and sports fans who don't watch them on any kind of regular basis have no idea.
The Clippers aren't an ordinary underdog - they're the worst kind of underdog. Go back and check out their record ATS last season.
If you've already got heavy scrach on them tonight then God Bless ya' and good luck, because honestly, I'm just trying to help.
Because for me Clippers are an opportunity. The handicappers best kept secret.
It's something about that uniform man.
Take the Spurs and the points.
