Oakland always plays tough win or loose but then again SF is desperate for a win. I understand why the line is so high expect a low scoring game in this one.

Was very impressed that Mike got the guys to close well, only to come up short on Philly. This team is extremely embarrased by the crappy season they are having. While the Raiders have certainly improved over last season, even when winning they are giving up over 26 pts a game. I would not be in the least surprised by a 49 er win & cover here.

Hey Smith.. please do your self a favor.. go f**** your self.
SF absolutely doesn't have any defense, even a college team like Hawaii could beat the SF stupid team. Imagine how they got beaten 5 times this season.

OAK +6.5 - (3units): the whole niner team seems to be pressing to get a win, shooting themselves in the foot in the process. While the Raiders have more penalties yard per game, they lead the niners in fewer turnovers (8-15). Their time of possession per game is greater after 5 games, i'll side against the team in the tailspin. (Leans: KC, NYJ, TB, CLE, STL, SEA)

How does this line say Vegas is begging for SF action?  Raiders covered and won outright last week against SD, almost covered against Houston at home too.  Niners are 0-5, and sure they're desperate but were you really expecting a line over 7 points?  It's a rivalry game too.

with that said I am playing the desperation card here, and people over-valuing the Raiders after their outright win last week, and their close loss to Houston the prior week.  Jason Campbell is slated to start, and as a Skins fan I don't need to tell you how much he sucks.  Looking at the Niners to finally get a W and take out their frustration here.

I can't see what all the fuss is about SF being an underrated team. They've been ordinary defensively and below avg offensively.

QB Smith improved his game in 2009 (18 TD , 12 INT), as he became a decent NFL starter, but this season there's been too many picks.

Gore has been at about an 18 carry 60+ yd. pace in the first 5 games. Not impressive.

Smith, Gore, and V Davis have combined for 11 fumbles in 5 games. 5 of those 11 were lost. That's one lost fumble per game from just those 3 guys!

So, in 3 of the 5 games, SF has reached the final 2 minutes locked in a very tight game. That's commendable. The problem has been, in those games, SF's weaknesses have shined. (1) In the N.O. game, Brees was a cool 4-6 for about 50 yds. to set up the the game-winning FG at the gun. (2) In the Atl game, they actually picked off Ryan in the final drive but fumbled the ball right back on the same play. Unfortunate, but the guy could have just fallen down or run out of bounds. Other than that play, Ryan was 10-14 for about 70 yds on a drive where they ran the ball zero times, save the centering dive on the last play before the winning FG. (3) And, of course, Smith was picked off by Philly on the last drive of the game last week. In short, SF needs a little more pass D in the 2-minute, be it rush or coverage, and some heads-up play from more guys. Intangibles!

Oakland likes to run the ball and they play well vs. the pass on D. Not a bad matchup for SF. The problem for SF though, is that in the 2 games Oak has played vs. teams playing subpar ball (Stl and SD), Oak has walked away with the W both times.

5 games is a small sample, but SF has proven that, (1) Smith is good for 1 or 2 picks per game. (2) SF offense will lose at least 1 fumble per game (3) SF pass D is vulnerable vs. 2-min offense at the end of the game (save the SF DB's pick of Ryan, which he then fumbled away). (4) Smith wasn't able to run the 2-min offense vs. Philly last week, when they could have tied the game and sent it to OT.

The one plus in SF's favor is that Oak's pass offense is probably not going to be as potent in the 2-minute at the end of the game as N.O.'s or Atl's pass O was.

Battle of the Bay should be fun. No reason to believe SF will run away with this game. QB Campbell is not that good, but he's only thrown 2 picks in 70 attempts. I don't think SF can count on him to hand the game away. Oak +6.5.

**PRE-GAMEDAY SWITCH** SF -6.5 - (2units): WHILE the whole niner team seems to be pressing to get a win, shooting themselves in the foot in the process, THEY ARE THE BETTER TEAM. It seems everyone and his mother's uncle are going against the 0-5 team, 58% anyway. The lines at -7 this Sat A.M. but i'll take it and the home team vs. cross-bay rival to cover. What sealed the deal on the switch was Jason Campbell being named QB (Leans: KC, NYJ, TB, CLE, STL, SEA, ATL,JAG)

S.O.B Smells Cheddar In Raiders 49ers Game

OAKLAND RAIDERS @ SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

 The  Line (SF -6.5)

It has been 8 years since the Bay Area has had one of its football teams have a winning record. It appears as if we are staring at 9 years directly in the face.

Oh yes, the game that has everybody asking themselves “What the hell is up with this line?” Before we start behaving like the general public, let’s take a closer look at the situation at hand. Before I even look at NFL lines, I like to guess what I personally think they should be. I had this game at 3 with the hook coming into play in either direction. The 49ers opened up as an eye popping 7 point fav and the line has not seen much movement. Vegas appears to be looking for us to pounce on Oak like a panther. But “Pauley” the Public Player, is still confused about this one, as he should be. How do we tackle uncertainty? While most people walk away and go look for a Patriots game to burn their money on, I like to stay right here and figure out what is up with this line.

I know I am not the only one stunned with San Francisco’s 0-5 start. The truth of the matter is that their defense is still legit, and recent performances against the Saints, Falcons and Eagles suggest that the Niners can play with the best. Unfortunately, they have not ONCE had a chance to feed off of the 49ers offense this season. They are morally down, and not even a great coach like Mike Singletary can keep them focused when Alex Smith turns the ball over 5 times. What’s more disturbing is the 49ers rushing game (ranked 30). Speaking of disturbing, lets break down Oakland’s “wool over the eyes” victory over San Diego last week. The Raiders blocked two punts and returned an interception for a TD against the Chargers. It took a barrage of special team blunder by S.D for Oak to finally break a 13 game losing streak against Norv Turners team..

I want to say that this is a battle between two bad teams, but San Francisco simply has too good of a defense to call them bad. They have had a brutal schedule so far that has included games against New Orleans ( L 25-22) Atlanta (L 16-14) and Philly last week (27-24) In these three close games against quality opponents the Niners combined for 13 turnovers!! That is absolutely NUTS.  Coach Mike Singletary is hoping a confrontation with quarterback Alex Smith will help. Smith’s fumble last week led to an Eagles touchdown early in the fourth quarter, and Singletary considered replacing him with backup David Carr. But Smith spoke up for himself in a heated exchange with his coach, then led two late touchdown drives as the 49ers’ comeback attempt fell just short. Mike Singletary’s “confrontation” with Vernon Davis a few years ago literally changed the makeup of the entire organization,  If this scuffle between coach and QB has HALF of the effect it did with V.Davis, then 49ers fans will finally have something to cheer about. I think Alex Smith knows that he is playing for his career in this game. Schematically the biggest mismatch I see is the Raiders offense against the 49ers defense.

I usually provide much more data when I break down games, but this is one of those games where I throw everything out the window and observe and revert to talent and scenario at hand. One thing nobody is talking about is the fact that Jason Campbell might be worse than Alex Smith. (Completing just 51% of his passes this year!) I can’t figure out where Oakland is going to get its points from in this game?

THE LINE (-6.5)  IS LIKE AN ONION, THE MORE YOU PEEL IT, THE MORE IT STINKS. I LOVE THE 49ERS TO GET OFF TO A QUICK START AND WATCH THE DEFENSE FLY AROUND FREELEY AGAINST A RAIDER OFFENSE THAT IS SEVERELY OVERMATCHED IN THIS GAME.

The Niners have Car, Den and Stl coming up on their sched. Do you think they are not fully aware of the fact that they can’t be 4-5 soon? It starts this week with a 10-13 point victory over Oakland.

S.O.B Pregame speech to Alex Smith:

“ look dickhead, your career is on the line,  you’re at home, and the game plan is designed to help you succeed. Don’t cough the ball up 5 times, the Raiders are coming off of a shady win and they have no clue on how to react to such a circumstance.”

THE PLAY: SF -6.5 (up yours Vegas. I will lay the points if that’s how it has to be)

Mathematics for the Addicts.. (interesting trends below) *49ers are 10-2-1 ATS in their last 13 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.

*49ers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game.

*49ers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.

*49ers are 11-4-2 ATS in their last 17 games following a S.U. loss

***Other Notable Plays:

San Diego -9 over St. Louis (Big Juevos)

                                       Jets -3.5 over Broncos

                                       Colts -3 over Redskins

*49ers are 7-1-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss.

yes its a trap line, should be a pick-em, raiders can win this let alone receive a TD start along as singletary and smith are calling and running the plays.

Reverse line movement and Campbell starting.  49ers get their first win and cover the 7 points.

well friggin said!  and even tho i have respect for Mike Singletary, i dont believe he's fit to be a head coach cuzz here he goes again backing Alexa Smith and having him start vs. Raiders.  Alexa Smith sucks it deep!!!!!!!  I'm on a couch and figured that out last year!  Mike Singletary is on the friggin sideline!!!!!!!
