Parlaying Ducks and Tigers (LSU) 2 units. I think Oregon wins by 17.

on paper, if Oregon is motivated to play, this should be no contest...

but, texas does have talent, and a motivated coaching staff and team in a game that will be mack browns last game...his players love him, and his assistants respect him for the most part...

this is a no play for me.   yes, I am a texas homer, and on paper, I would take the ducks in a second.  but, the games not played on paper, and I could see, at least for a while, a texas team that has underachieved for the last 4 years, play up to its talent level and that of its opponent, and either pull the upset outright, or at least play an honorable game, and lose with honor and with a cover...

you all need to think about this, especially if you are backing Oregon...

I am reading this game the same way, Oregon is clearly the better team but the intangibles bother me too.  My reaction at first was Ducks would expose the Horns' rush defense and easily cover the 2 TDs.  I have never been a Mack Brown fan as a HC and wondered why TX didn't ditch him years ago but the emotions of the Texas team will be sky high.  I don't know if it will be enough since Oregon players should be motivated to makeup for their late season collapse.  Not really sure the Texas offense is good enough to keep it close, McCoy is just not a big league QB.

I still think Oregon wins the game but may have to take them as part of a teaser to reduce the points they have to cover.  Your suggestion for Oregon backers to approach this one with their eyes wide open is a good one.

I agree completely about fearing the intangibles if you bet with Oregon.  Oregon no doubt is built to destroy a defense like Texas plays and their weaknesses.  Yet the intangibles are clearly leaning to Texas, and Oregon even being relegated to this game is a downer for them.

In bowl language that means look out.  Time and time again in bowls, the inferior team comes in with way more motivation and beats a team they should not.  That's the golden rule of bowl betting...break the game down, circle your pick, then check the motivation factor to make sure it is up to par for the team you are backing.  When a team comes in sky high and the other walks in feeling like their season is ending below their aspirations...it's usually a bowl recipe for a shocking defeat.

All that being said, Oregon still has one HUGE factor in their favor I cannot ignore...Texas can't handle dangerous running QB's.  Especially when they have their hands full covering all over the field.  No matter what intangibles are there, the Texas defense matches up horribly in this one, if not just for the Ducks QB.  Especially with the missing LB's.

The d-line will have to control the line and severely get after the Oregon QB to slow him down.  They do have the talent to do so no doubt.  Texas certainly has the ability to hammer the run at a softer Oregon run defense and control clock.

When the smoke clears, I just don't see the Horns holding down the Ducks' offense enough to hang all the way to the end.  And never forget, Case McCoy is still the QB.  He's a drive killer in himself.

Leaning Oregon but what a  unreliable team to bet on. Mariota went from being possibly the first pick in the draft to a guy who clearly shouldn't have been playing because of injury. Probably a no play.

Most boring bowl season ever!!! I'll take this one over. Oregon has trouble stopping the run and Texas can stop the zone read to save their lives!!

Game scares the crap out of me.  Ducks should blow them away, but won't because the Texas athletes are going out on their shields for old Mack, and Texas hasn't stopped a mobile QB in years.  What's a guy to do?  When in doubt, play the tease, or don't bet it at all.  I think Texas scraps with them, but can't win it, my only concern is McCoy doing anything to get the Horns the points I need.  Boy just isn't a good D1 QB.

I have Texas +20' and over 61 on a 2 teamer.  GL to all.

Texas has the motivation in this one for old Mack, the game is also in TEXAS which will not hurt their cause.  What's the Ducks motivation.  They were top tier early in the year and now this useless bowl.  They should win, no doubt, but TEXAS keep it within 14.

Texas def has the motivation and the talent (8 players entering the NFL draft) and it seems to me Oregon has a way of not covering spreads (check their ATS record) so buying up to 15 and taking Texas in this one and just for fun betting a small on the money line (just in case because garbage happens in bowl games and a team with motivation and something to proof!!) good luck to all and this write up is just my 2 cents...

Texas QB is so bad....don't think his abilities will be enhanced because "old Mack" is leaving.....
