Don't have to confess that here.  It is Christmas Day and we are grown men sitting around trying to decide how to profit by lay ing some cabbage on teenaged students playing a game when tthey should be with family or studying.  Degenerates, indeed.

LOL, You know me too well. My head says no play but my heart says  bet on Bowling Green, can I resist the urge? Probably not. I'm a gambling degenerate and I don't like Pittsburgh.

I'm a Pitt guy. Have had family members in the band.Logic tells me Bowling Green should dominate Pitt.I hate this kind of reasoning, but since everyone like BG, I'm gonna take Pitt.

I see a ton of love everywhere for B-Green and normally that would worry me (still does a lil) cuz the books ain't going broke anytime soon. But this early in the bowl season I think the lines can be a lil soft, mostly due to weaker teams with less consistent play(ers). And although I'm not typically a conspiracy guy that thinks the books are out to trick everyone all the time. And I typically believe they just want even money on both sides so they collect their vig and leave the gambling to us.

I could see these first few bowl games having fave-friendly lines. Not just because of the level of play but also because it allows the squares and d-gens to BOTH get paid off now while laying the lumber. Only to have them get lazy and overconfident early on. Then as the games are played by better teams and have more of a pro feel. The books sharpen up the lines and pull the rug out from under everyone who is laying chalk......and also usually pounding the over.

It's not the most important criteria I want to use for capping this game and far from a certainty. But I only watched a handful of CFB games this year so I have to rely mostly on what I read which is only the opinions of other people I don't know well or follow consistently and therefore can't trust. So I like to try and find as many valid off field angles as possible and I think this could be one worth considering.

But I gotta say the stat/trend about the MAC being 1-11 or whatever it is in bowl games. Seems to have gotten the attention of several bettors. But I can't put a ton of stock in that because I don't see what a game played a decade ago by a bunch of guys who haven't played on these teams in years has to do with this game. Maybe if the trend was based on similar cross country travel  plans, time zone changes,long-term rivalries and specific venues that would be one thing. But with neutral locations and teams having weeks or months to prepare. And conferences getting shuffled more frequently. I don't see how the score of a game that took place when the players of this game were in grade school effects the final score of this outcome.

Normally going with the majority is gonna cost you long term. But in this instance I think it still may be the proper play.

BOL with whatever you decide and enjoy the game.

I agree with you 100% about the way that everything points to a BG win. Plus, I don't like the way the line is moving. However, I think BG is going to win just because of Red zone Offense and Defense, but I am going to keep my money in my pocket on this one.

I would usually go with the team that has a tougher strength of schedule (Pitt).  But in this instance I'm thinking Bowling Green and their defense just may pull off the cover.  Still not sure if I will bet it though.

Pit+6.5. Teams with talent that lose their coaches prior to a bowl game, usually do not let that affect them, (i.e. USC). USC is stacked with talent and they didnt lose a step against Fresno after Orgeron left because they really never had a good coach the whole year. Of course Orgeron motivated them to play well but he was just a players coach.  Boise on the other hand, who was lacking talent, and was successful mainly because of Coach Peterson, fell apart against an Oregon State team that lost its last 5 in a row.  The coach made the team and I see a similar team in Bowling Green.  The defensive minded Clawson leaves and now their special teams coach is the games interim coach.  I see BG's team losing focus and their defense not being able to stop Pitt's mediocre offense.  I see this being a high scoring game because of this and also because it is inside a dome.  5 units on Pitt+6.5, and 2 units on the Over 49.5

Keep in mind:

This is 4th straight game on the road
Coach has departed
Level of competition not as strong as Pitt

So, the big question is, how talented the Bowling Green players really are. Any NFL draft picks?

Who wants the game more? What is a more important game? A league championship or one of the lesser bowls? I can see a let down for BG if their big effort went into the championship and the bowl could be anticllimactic.

Pitt? How was Pitt's season? Can they salvage the season by winning the bowl game? Will they be inspired to kick the pop warner league (MAC) team's rear..intent on showing them what it's like playing with the big boys?

so, we need to figure out WHO wants the game...I don't know the teams well enough to answer that question, but if Pitt can salvage the season and continue to grab points...they look like a logical choice.

Anyone know the tuba player in Bowling Green's band? If so, can you give us pick...so we'll know whether it concurs with the Pitt band's selection or we go with BG.

Big thing riding in BGSU's favor is the field.   They just got done playing NIU here a couple weeks ago.  familiarity, comfort level, etc...     Finished the season playing really well.   a big factor in their NIU win was the lack of tackling they saw (especially at the 2nd level).   Wow was that bad.  (Noted for the next game).   This Pitt team is much better Defensively.        BGSU was especially successful with the pass, and I don't see that being a big factor tonight.

UNDER 51.

There could be a bit of an offensive let down here.  BGSU is riding high as DrDoggs at the end of a bad work week.    Big win against NIU to illustrate the country should be talking about them and not Lynch - and now a .500 Pitt squad.      (I don't know if I believe this, but thought it was worth noting)

I think that the strength of schedule argument only applies when you are talking about at least an average team. Bad teams can play tough schedules too but they are still bad teams. I could be wrong but Pitt just does not pass the eye test. Every time you think they are going to take the next step they let you down

Nhaa some fool called me DMX! UGGHHH WHAT UGGGHh WHAT. The doc says these bowl games are for bustahs. It is not the time to get paid. That was like 3-6 weeks ago for college anyway. Go to NFL forums for the doc cashish!! But if we must go for the somes...Pitt is Poo. They have always been chumps, even back before the mustache they constantly underachieved. Smoka Bowl of Phat Green and OV for the larrggee. EYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Wow there must be some big bucks or sharp bucks on Bg, line went up to 7.5 with my book. Don't know if I would worry about a BG letdown, if it was just a regular week gap between games maybe but with the extra time I think they will be ready. Also, as a rule the team from the smaller conference has the motivation in a bowl against a team from a bigger conference.
Having said all of this my favorite pick of the night is Utah St at pick
