Prime play? What has Rice shown this year to make you think they are capable of stopping Marshal? They fall in behind-backwards into this game.

While I agree with you that Rice fell backwards into this game, I will tell you I have seen every Rice game this year. I know Marshall has been killing it lately and is rolling coming into this game. While Rice has done just enough to win a lot of their recent games.

There are a couple of things I know about Rice. Their coach (David Baliff) is a pretty good coach and will change a game plan at the drop of a hat when he feels it necessary. On the surface you would think Rice with one of the best running games in Conf USA would just try to run run run and keep the ball out of Marshall's hands. But I have seen many times Baliff change his game plan and go to a run and shoot to create chaos for the opposition.

Additionally, Rice has a ton of seniors. Rice is a team that plays to their opponents. I think the game will go over. I also think Rice will cover.  I am thinking about taking Rice ML and over. 37-35 Rice.

Marshall is hitting their stride the second half of the season, I like them to win by 7+, probably more like 10-13.

I am not saying over/under or Rice or Marshall. What I am saying is here in Houston the temp was 72 this morning. Now its in the 50. Tonight in the 40's. Friday in the 40's. Saturday will be the worst day here in Houston. There is a 50% chance of rain and the temp will be in high 30's game time. The winds will be hitting 18mph. No I am not saying UNDER UNDER UNDER. I am saying this is the forecast right now for Saturday 11am.

I plan on going to the game. Will probably come back to this thread close to game time to up date the weather from my car in the parking lot.

Rice probably has one of the best rushing attacks in Conference USA. I would guess that would be the game plan for them knowing the crap weather that potentially might show up.

I love getting first hand weather from a fellow gambler...yes of course you can go to weather .com or whatever, look at a radar...check temp & wind but those big national weather sites blow & aren't accurate down to the exact degree or the winds exact mph & gusts blah blah...love when our people are on the ground licking their thumb & allowing the moisture to indicate wind direction like Rodney Dangerfield in back to school...but seriously love any local info anyone gives...so thanks peewee BOL

I agree with you about the coaching abilities and the over, for that matter: if and only if Taylor McHargue plays well.  He has his good days, and his bad days when he can't hit the side of a barn with a pass from five yards away.  His performance versus Kansas/UTSA was pathetic.  I guess since we landed a man on the moon anything is possible, including a Rice win.  That being said, Rice may have their hands full stopping a very balanced Marshall run and pass game.

A little history lesson regarding Rice stadium. They played the 1974 their. I believe it was Dolphins vs Vikes. Deadspin had some formula rating the excitement of each Superbowl and the 1974 was formulated as the second least exciting Superbowl played.

I digress, Rice Stadium is obviously old, but the field does very well with inclement weather...specifically rain. The surface is fieldturf since 2006.  Not a slopfest like some fields.

The last time I ever tried to use the rain and wind as some sort of indicator is when I unloaded on the under in the Rice vs Tulsa game November 24, 2007. It was a freaking monsoon that day. Rain, wind, cold, more rain and more wind.....Tulsa 48 Rice 43......Guess who got coal in her stocking for Christmas....My girlfriend at the time.

This game is being offered as live in-play on my site.  I want to see how Rice and MacHargue start the game.  If they are moving the ball I will jump on the over.  If they are not moving the ball it's Marshall all day.  I don't mean to be a pest PeeWee, but I think it's only fair if you are going to speak as an insider to give some of these guys a heads up on the Rice offense and their QB.  Talor MacHargue is a big, strong, agile QB that has issues, at times, playing this position.  When he is off, he's the worst QB in CFB.  Over the last few years his inconsistent play has led to being pulled off the field, mid game.  If you have not watched Rice, or know their style of play, I caution you to rush into taking the points just because they are at home.

The reason I am talking about the weather and the turf is because that is what I know. I also know that Rice is a Running team first. I know they have a ton of Seniors. The Rice QB Taylor Mchargue is serviceable but not outstanding. The Rice RB Charles Ross is outstanding.

Just for informational purposes. One of the local stations here interviewed Matt Millan because he is calling the game and he said he Has watched the film and believes Rice has a chance in this game because they match up well on defense.  So take that for what it's worth.

PeeWee, it's fairly obvious given your statements that you a Rice fan and I think you are giving advice with your heart and not your head.  First off, as a Penn Stater myself I wouldn't lay a dime on what Matt Millan has to say about match ups.  Far beyond that, the head to head comparison on offense clearly favors Marshall at all skilled positions. QB Cato, RB taliaferro, and WR shuler all present match up problems for Rice.  While you may say that Taylor MacHargue is serviceable, in actuality he is a dual personality on the field.  When he is one (Texas A&M) he's a stud, but when he is off (kansas) he sucks balls. Laying money on Rice is suicide financially.

I like Marshall to cover, medium confidence since Rice is at home.  Wouldn't put too much into that A&M performance, they are the worst defense in the SEC and were not at full strength.  Marshall has been playing well lately, has more big game experience, and the Rice fan base just isn't that intimidating.  I like Marshall by 10.

Looking at over.  Weather shouldn't be an issue.  Just a gray/cold day (as H-town goes...), light precip, if any.

Marshal avgs 40+/game and rice @ 30/game...
