Ah!!! Opening week, I can't wait!

Since taking over the steering wheel of the South Carolina program in 2005, the Ole Ball Coach is 8-0 during Week 1. However, South Carolina has been 4-4 ATS during this same time span losing the last two straight ATS.

Senior Cocks QB Conner Shaw is 14 of 25 for 120 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT on opening week (with two years as backup to Stephen Shaw). The major point to remember here is the Ole Ball Coach averages 23 pass attempts to 40 rush attempts on opening week.

My take on this, Spurrier isn't all too confident in Conner Shaw. I doubt that he will give Shaw the green light to sling the ball around. He plays opening day safe and will run the ball over 40 times. This means grinding out the clock. Jadeveon Clowney is all the talk and the average fan will put their money on the Cocks just because Clowney is a damn freak. I think Vegas wants us to do this. Wants the money on the Cocks, and with another year under my belt I know Vegas is not in the business of giving money away.

With a trip to Georgia coming up next week the Cocks are not going to give the Bulldogs too much to look at on tape.

The Cocks definitely win but don't cover the -11.

Wishing you all a prosperous season. Respect to those I've been watching the last 4 years on here...Colonel Jim, Irisheyes, Big Daddy

I've read valid arguments for both sides on this game. Makes me feel that Vegas hit the line dead on. Spurrier does not like North Carolina (he used to coach at Duke). But undecided on this one.

Gamecocks will do their usual under Spurrier on opening night. It will be close for a half or so. Their rabid (obnoxious) fans and superior talent will take its toll on the Heels by the second half 34-14 Cocks.

I need to know more about the SC offense.  I know about Shaw, but what about the running game?  No one really stepped up last year after Lattimore went down.  At WR, Ace Sanders is gone (hurts special teams too) and Ellington may not play.   Will they be able to score a lot?  Will the D need to score?

Aloha and welcome back to all  hope everyone enjoyed their break from football. Nice to see some of my friends here posting...always a great help

1st games of the season are always hard to gauge...never know how much rust needs to be shaken off or how the new players will do.

Although Clowney is a solid player the gamecocks did lose some key players on defense this season. Some key offensive weapons like Ace Sanders is in the NFL as well now and so is Lattimore...I know Lattimore would not of played anyway due to injury.

I have a feeling Conner Shaw starts off strong in this one...leaning on the Gamecocks in the first half...nothing solid just guessing.

Game will be won in trenches and i have to go with South Carr. Big stage here for Mr. Clowney- he could start on sunday right now. South car by at least 14

Lot of points there for the Tar Heels.  Opening game for both teams, nationally televised on ESPN.  you don't think UNC will be jacked up as well?

I think SOCAR is over-valued here.  11 pts (12 someplaces) against a potential high scoring team? All the talk of Clowney (who is a great DEF player) and of course the Old Ball Coach, has gotten SOCAR alot of attention this summer.  Public is on them 63% which is also another indication of the SOCAR love.

SOCAR wins this game but within the 7-10 pt range.  Take UNC and the pts here.

I have read some compelling points. Right now I feel like the country is all about clowney and SC. First thought is to fade them and take UNC more towards game time when it's +13-14.... Good luck everyone this season!

I see this being a dangerous game for South Carolina. The cocks have been hearing about how great they are and how great Clowney is all off-season. Typically complacency takes over and they start believing the hype without keeping that chip on the shoulder that got them top rated in the first place. The fact that Georgia is next really sweetens the deal. North Carolina on the other hand have been hearing how great South Carolina is and how they don't stand a chance. This is the biggest game for UNC hands down. From an X&O's stand point South Carolina should be a double digit favorite at home but you need to look at the mental aspect. These are kids and no matter what they say complacency is an issue.

This game has backdoor cover written all over it for UNC. I can just see it now. SC goes up late by 17 with a few minutes to play and then UNC gets a prevent D against some backups and miraculously drives down the field late for a cheapie and devastates all SC backers who were already counting their winnings.

This scenario sound familiar to anyone? HA, must be college football season.

On a serious note, I do agree with Yes im a noob on his point about Spurrier not putting too much on tape for Georgia. Of course the objective is to win first but if he gets a lead and can grind out the ground on the game I think he does it. From first glance I think we get a  24-14, 27-17 type of game. Definitely going to do a little more studying on this one before game time though.

Good to see all the familiar gang back for another year of college football!!!  I'm pumped!

I'm taking the gamecocks on this one if I can keep it under 2 TDs

Good luck all

I think I smell a in this game.  I agree with SystemProfits as I can definitely see SC covering the entire game just to lose ATS in the last 15 seconds.

I am thinking about a tease play or maybe SC first half.
