Southern Miss vs. Middle Tennessee State
- A couple of stats stood out at m a lot....
Middle Tennessee State is 0-2 against Bowl teams and have not beat a team with a winning record. In fact, the teams they have beat winning record combined is 30-78. 3 of their wins have come against 2-10 teams and one against an 0-12 team.
- While Southern Miss numbers aren't overwhelming either, they are at least 2-2 against bowl teams. They are also 6-0 at home which this will virtually be.
Southern Miss Offensive Breakdown:
Points Scored: 19th Total Yards: 28th Pass Yards: 44th Rush Yards: 26th
MTSU Defensive Breakdown:
Points Allowed: 45th Total Yards Allowed: 49th Pass Yards Allowed: 53rd Rush Yards Allowed: 50th
Analysis: Both teams are very balanced. Southern Miss has a strong running offense and a respectable passing offense. MTSU is very balanced on defense. The slight edge to Southern Miss but should be pretty even matchup. No big edge one way or another.
MTSU Offensive Breakdown
Totals Points: 29th Total Yards: 31st Pass Yards: 41st Rush Yards: 34th
Southern Miss Defensive Breakdown:
Total Points Allowed: 55th Total yards Allowed: 77th Pass Yards Allowed: 113 Rush Yards Allowed: 33rd
Analysis: MTSU has a nice, balanced offense. Southern Miss defense is pretty good, but there passing defensive is quite vulnerable. I could see MTSU airing it out early and often, then settling down and pounding it. Bigger advantage when MTSU has the ball then when Southern Miss does.

Analysis: Once again not a lot to get from here. These teams are very even. One of the major things that stuck out at me was the combination of Southern Miss FG % and MTSU Defensive Red Zone TD %. Southern Miss only makes 66.7% of their field goals, and MTSU does a GREAT job of holding their opponents to Field goals and keeping them out of the endzone. I feel like this is a very important thing here because Southern Miss may com out of some posessions with nothing when they should of got some points.
Overall... I am not sold one way or the other after all this breakdown. I lean to Southern Miss just because of the fact that Middle Tennessee State has not beat anyone. Also a heavy lean on the under
My prediction for now (Subject to change...) Southern Miss: 31 MTSU: 21
