I've never even held a gun in my life, you know why? Because nobody has one. I don't feel the need to own a gun to protect myself, you know why? Because nobody else has one. Nobody I know owns guns, shoots guns, or even thinks about guns, you know why? Because guns aren't a part of life in Canada. More guns, more problems. You can get rid of guns and gun culture, you can't get rid of criminals or crazy people.

Hunting and handguns aren't the same issue. I do know people that hunt but they own shotguns or crossbows, not 9mm pistols and high capacity automatic rifles.

This is a tough issue but ultimately the trigger has to be pulled.  Trigger doesnt pull itself.  I dont own a gun, never shot one but I do believe its the fuked up people who ultimately are the issue, not the weapon itself.

Bill didn't pass. Guess you NRA honks are cracking the crystal. Let the bloodshed continue with no substantial policy change.

sorry clepto, but completely disagree with you on this one. Criminals will always have guns, getting them illegally without going through background checks. This new bill would have done NOTHING to stop what happened in Newton.  .

And there in lies the problem. Don't get me wrong, last place to find support for my opinion would be the NASCAR forum. I don't blame you guys, no law will change reality, reality is there are so many guns in the US it breeds a vigilante culture. That's what makes you a world superpower, that's what makes Canada a safer place to live. We don't need guns cause we have our southern brothers if s h I t ever hits the fan.

I respect all your opinions, just think you're all wrong. When 90% of the population supports background checks and it still can't pass...the system is fucked...period.

There already SO many guns in the USA, the criminals will be the only people that have them. So how do we protect ourselves?

I'm with Clepto on this

I would've loved to see the bill pass.  Not necessarily because the bill would've done a lot to prevent violence, but just to see our government do something to move towards a safer society.  Made me sick to see that those f*cking nimrods couldn't even pass a bill that 90% of the public wanted, and that a republican and democrat (both gun lovers) created.  So many lies and assumptions from congressmen...this is a perfect example of why people have zero faith in our current government system.

there was never 90% of the public backing this , it was closer to 40%. The media puts out there what they want, they polled 900 people and came up with that 90%, its bullshit. Go on yahoo or any other site where people can post their opinions, you will clearly see the reality of it. 90% is a joke.
