Always a tough question to ask after the fact. Most horseplayers don't ever like to admit defeat.
I can say from my personal pocket, its frustrating picking the chalk winner and having less to show for it. In both races, I did not see the point of much win money on AP so I played exotics. The derby tri wasn't a money maker unless you had it multiple. The derby pick 4 was $500, not bad, but did not compensate unless you had other good wagers with it.
The Preakness tri was good, but having it one time in an AP all 7 ticket didn't compensate for other bets and not having the multi race wagers surrounding it.
Looking forward to the Belmont, if for nothing else, the great undercards which hopefully allow for great pools playing into the Belmont.

I'm far from an expert in gambling matters.
However, it seems to me from a financial standpoint wouldn't it be best to buy a % of win tickets of one's bank as $2 win tickets on AP to sell on Ebay? If he wins, you could make more by not cashing the tickets on a TC winner. Then spend the rest on other horses to maybe win big bucks for the day?
