A home run today (see yesterday's post) with Animal Kingdom, Orb and Revolutionary winning their respective races. Throw in Za Approval for the double into the Florida Derby and Itsmyluckyday for the exacta and you should have made a nice payday. I'm thrilled to see the race go 1:50.87 which was almost a full 2 seconds slower than Dreaming of Julia in race 8. So now the chatter about the slow times will percolate but no matter because the track at GP has run that way all season. While I did not see the fractions I wanted to see, that turns out to be OK since the race was not going to produce them with a pace of 1:12.89 for 6F.
I'll take the win because it did look as if there was allot more in the tank. Peaking at the right time. That's the story this time of year.
Revolutionary's win in 1:50.28 was a bit more interesting, as it looked like he might go down in defeat. Some guts down the stretch. Second time in a row now, so this colt has to be taken seriously. I already know this will be an exacta for me if they both run. Just for kicks if for no other reason.
Anyway, a Key Horse running on Sunday:
CURRENT KEY HORSES (< 90 DAYS)
Coffee Clique - GP (10) GP 02/02/13 # 1
I'll simply reproduce my comments on the GP race that got her on my list:Well, Kittens Point did in fact win her next start in the Herecomesthebride Stakes - Gr. 3 beating Coffee Clique by 2 lengths on 3/2, but they certainly were entitled to reverse themselves after the scorching fractions of the 2/2 race. But no Kittens Point to deal with in the Secret Grace Stakes (70k) and Coffee Clique certainly looks toFebruary 2, 2013 Race 1 - We will finish up with a scorcher. In this ALwOC for 3 year old fillies on the turf at one mile, Coffee Clique (Lynch/Rocco, Jr.) ran into fast fractions set by Silsita (Pletcher/Valesquez) and then set the after burners on high and finished up in 11.69 for the final panel and 1:34.25 for the mile journey. She was ridden by Joe Rocco, Jr. that day and has won 2 of 3, breaking her maiden at Woodbine in her first try. I love the trackman's comment: "Strong hand ride". Any filly that doesn't need a swat or two to finish up in a sub 12 furlong gets her oats hand delivered by me anytime. She showed quite a turn of foot and is one to keep an eye out for. Also notable was the slow starting Kittens Point (Motion). Ridden by Johnny V. and starting over after a drubbing in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, she broke slowly and was angled out in the stretch, rallying for the place spot while making up significant real estate during the fastest fractions of the race. Again, one to watch for as she finds her legs and confidence.
be a deserving ML favorite. Joe Rocco, Jr. stays aboard.
Enjoy the Sunday racing, good luck and good 'capping!
