#54 Posted: 4/28/2012 10:01:59 PM Bob and Cathy Zollars’ Daddy Nose Best continued his preparation for a start in the 138th running of the $2 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (Grade I) with a five-furlong breeze Monday morning in 1:00.20 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Working on the outside of stablemate Hierro, the Asmussen-trained duo recorded fractions of :12.40, :24, :35.80 and :47.60 and galloped six furlongs in 1:13.80 and seven furlongs in 1:29.20. It was the fastest work of 20 at the distance.
“I thought it was a great work,” Asmussen said. “He went over the track really well and I’m glad we were able to get the work in before the rain hit.” |

LOWDOWN: From the start of his career, big things were expected of Hierro, a $350,000 son of Hard Spun who broke his maiden over this track last November by 5 ¼ lengths. He disappointed at short prices in two starts this year at Santa Anita for Steve Asmussen, but can reboot his 3-year-old campaign returning to his home court.
