Simple theme for today: it's really difficult to beat a conference opponent 3 times in the same season.
Also, a note on the Carolina-State ACC semi-final game. I'm a Carolina grad and would love nothing more than to see the Heels beat the Wolfpuppies soundly once again. However, Henson's wrist injury completely changes the complexion of this game.
Even if Henson plays, he's not going to be 100%. His left hand is his dominant hand, especially in terms of blocking shots and snatching rebounds. And, his go to post move is his left handed jump hook (even though he shoots jumpers and foul shots right handed).
His injury minimizes Carolina's huge advantage on the boards, second chance points, and interior defense. Also, Henson, when healthy, gives CJ Leslie absolute fits. I'm also wondering if Henson's injury will change Gottfried's gameplan of doubling down in the post. In the match-up in Raleigh, State doubled down on both Zeller and Henson, and Carolina made them pay from deep (especially Kendall Marshall).
Not to mention, State (especially Scott Wood) is simply due to have a break-out game against the Heels. Hopefully, Reggie Bullock can blanket Wood yet again, but I'm not betting on it.
Carolina has absolutely dominated this series since Roy returned to Carolina. But, something tells me that today State finally gets over the hump in a game that means a helluva lot more to the Pack than Carolina. Roy will also tread very cautiously with Henson, I would imagine. Hope I'm wrong. Go Heels!
