Thanks for posting Neil...Your write-ups are great. Wondering your take on the Detroit/Western game tonight. Thought both teams would be better than this before season started.

I'm taking the day off today.
With the WMU/Detroit game, tough call. Detroit has revenge from last year's game, a game they probably should have won had Holman not been in foul trouble. However, Detroit probably lets down after the DickieV win on national TV. Western Michigan's offense has just looked flat for some reason, and while they've had a week of prep, i'm not sure if that's good or bad. They only games they have really looked good from an offensive standpoint this year were against teams who don't really care to defend (Iona, Colorado, and SD State). Just can't trust either team right now.
The two games I’m interested in for the day probably aren’t going to be lined (Cleveland State ends a five game roady at Robert Morris who just upset Duquesne and has revenge, and Oral Roberts travelling to Oklahoma with revenge), so not much action for me today.
Only one game I saw with interest in terms of styles and matchups would be the EMU/Drake game. EMU has recently shown signs of the Syracuse zone that Murphy brought with him when he took the job, so they're implementing it more and probably should see it quite a bit tonight. With Van Deest still out, and missing another big guy, Drake has almost exclusively gone to a motion dribble-weave style of offense. With that against the zone, not really sure where they are going to get scoring from. Neither team is built to score from the outside really, so this could possibly be the snail type of game that last year's 58-54 game was, and possibly could be worse. Another interesting angle is the fact that Drake's coming home from a brutally slow and tough style to defend in Air Force, and they have Iowa on deck. As for EMU offensively, they're pretty bad. Murphy's slowing games down for the sole purpose of not being blown out, and their best offense comes from the wing spots, which should be a cause for concern tonight primarily b/c Rayvonte Rice (probably MVC defensive player of the year this year), and Ben Simons pressure the heck out of the wings and teams have trouble shooting over them. I think if this game goes over, both teams will have to hit a great percentage of their shots from the outside, and I just don't see the shooters present on either team. I doubt EMU would look past Drake here, as they have had a week to prep for this one, but they do go to Purdue Saturday continuing the eight game roady (this is game #3).

Hey Neil why wouldnt they put a line out one Cleveland St vs Robert Moris? Both teams are Div1 and its not like they are some small schools in BFE. They are prominant schools. Why do you think they didnt put one out???????

Eh. Good match-up in terms of defensive styles. Both teams get after it and really force you in the paint where they can make a play with athleticism. Might hurt some quality shots going in the hoop. Probably still the side I would go with. Can't really see either team stopping the other if they can get a decent # of shots up.
