The responsibility is on the player, don't make a bone head play and they don't call a foul, easily put. I lost money on Pitt ml. But I'm pissed first at the idiot for not sinking two free throws, then OUTRAGED by the BUM who hacked the garbage out of Howard. You've gotta call the foul. Are those saying Howard shouldnt be allowed to get a 98 foot shot off? It's been made before. Pitt stinks. And how about the clock management, Coaches kill me, they try and bleed so much time off the clock to where you don't get a shot off. But has anyone ever thought about this. Regardless to if Butler get the rock with 8 secs or 15 secs. They are still gonna play for the last shot on their possesion. So the moral of the story is Pitt get into your offense sooner and worry about scoring as opposed to trying to run the full 35 secs off the clock.

I have seen worse not called i just don't see how u can blow the whistle there when there is nothing butler can do there to win the game its just the rebound..nasir is dumb for even reaching for the ball but that wasn't enuf to end the game like that..

OT would have settled it.. a no call does not hurt butler becuz they have the same chance of winning in ot at pitt would have..awful way to end the game..im over it though lets go JAYHAWKS

A foul is a foul regardless if it happens in the first second, 10 seconds left or 1 second left in the game. Would you guys rather have what  happened in the St. John's game happen??  It was a foul in both instances.  Mack fouled at half court, and Howard was fouled under the basket.  REFEREES GOT IT RIGHT!!!

I'm a Duke fan first, but I'm from Pittsburgh and I do love Pitt. I didn't wanna believe it but it was a foul. I have no clue what the kid was thinking, he had to of thought Pitt was still losing, That is just an unacceptable mental error. You have to know the game situation at all times, no matter what. If he did realize the game was tied, then I have no clue what to say. It was just plain & simple, stupid basketball. In that situation, you just don't put yourself in any kind of a position where a foul could possibly be called. End of story.

Its pretty bad to argue that in a 120+ possession game that one call made by a ref decided the outcome.

I am unfortunately a Pitt fan and that was definitely a foul that should have been called.  What the hell was Nasir Robinson thinking, if you don't have a clean shot at the rebound you go to overtime.

Pitt blew it!

Bottom line.

They got a break and could not take advantage of it.

Guys .. Like most here on this forum who have watched many games .. The ref with 2 seconds in the game should have never blown the whistle originally on the Butler foul . More contact allowed in this tourny than usual and you are going to make a ticky-tack call like that to decide a schools fate in 2 seconds for a the whole grind of the year is ridiculous . Butler Mack should have never been that close to him but come on , really 2 seconds making that call , brutal .. period .. Correct that the ref was looking for any kind of contact on that miss free throw  for the make-up , agreed .

okay i am a pitt fan. Its not Nasirs fault. if gil makes the freethrow that situation doesnt happen. if gary doesnt help out gil on defense with 4 seconds left butler doesnt get a easy layup for lead. if sheldon mack misses one of his 7 3 pointers from 8 ft beyond the arc. We win as a team, we lose as a team. One player doesnt win it, one player doesnt lose it. Please dont bash Nasir, the kid is a scrapper who works probably the hardest on the team.

You can't have it both ways.  A referee has one job and that is to call the game as he/she sees it.  It was clearly a foul, and the Ref made the call.  You cannot advocate Not calling a foul in one situation, and then call it in another.

The real question to answer is why the Pitt player did not use his head - or why the Pitt coaches did not say to his Big's "if he misses one of two, DO NOT FOUL!!!  We have fouled 10+ times, so they will get two free shots."

Seriously, this is a mental mistake by Pitt coaches and player.  The Butler player had him clearly boxed out, and had the rebound w/o question.  You need to use some mental muscle, but I suspect that most of the college atheletes are not all that smart to begin with...

First, I had the over... so I didn't really care at that point about the result.

I've seen the score, but not what happened. Youtube link?

Yes. They had "even up" on their minds.

Guys, the refs have one job - to call fouls.

In my humble opinion, you don't even have players in a rebounding position with .5 seconds left.  Let your player make the shot, or go to OT if he misses.  Having guys there to try and out-rebound Butler was asking for it.

As a Pitt grad/ fan, I will say this.  Both whistles were fouls respectively.  Mack drilled Brown and Robinson hacked Howard.  However, how many times have you seen fouls like this occur at the end of a game where the lead was 8 or more points, but the point total was approaching the total.  I have seen more times than not that when a team has a comfortable lead and its a point or two away from going over, the ref usually swallows his whistle.  Its happens all the time.  So as the ref stated, "a foul is a foul", why isn't the whistle blown if the game is out of reach.  I understand why they don't blow it, no team will gain enough of an advantage to decide the outcome.  But they said it plain and simple.  "A foul is a foul".

Secondly, has anybody noticed the number of charges that have been called so far?  Its unbelievable the amount of flopping and times a player jumps under a shooter as he attacks the basket.  Its not the reason Pitt lost, but I am positive Matt Howard is sitting in class flopping out of his seat as we speak.  I understand you have to reward good defense but to reward to good acting at this rate it absurd.
