love this squad, 2 words...
Austin Daye, look for him to take over, at 6'11" the kid can drive, post up and shoot a lights out 3 ball averaging 42% this year from beyond the arc. On defense he blocks 2 shots per game. He's an NBA talent and no player in the country can guard him, he's to big and diverse.
Then you have the most important position of the tournament, PG.
J. Pargo 4 year player, in these trny's we see loads of young talent but experience at the guard position is so crucial. Just look at how Marquette has become a shadow of the team they were since losing James. Pargo can score and dish averaging near 10 pts per and 5 dimes. And he has size at 6'2" 220.
His backup is a talented freshman Demetri Goodson, really like this kid and I expect to play large in the trny behind Pargo.
Bouldin 6'5" and 224lbs. Another upperclassmen with 3 years experience. He averages 13.7pts, 3.9 reb & 3.4 ast. Oh yeah he shoots a lights out 3 ball as well knocking down 45% of his 3's.
At forward we have Heytvelt, yet another senior and a 4 year player. Yeah he's not in the same league as Thabeet or Tyler or Blake but he's a hard nosed big man at 6'11" weighing 260 lbs. He averages 14.9 and near 7 boards. And yes he can shoots the long ball at a 42% clip. It's not his go to spot on the floor but don't leave alone from distance cause he can hit it with regularity. If you're wondering when they played UCONN against Thabeet he scored 15 and made 5 of 8 from the floor including 1 of 3 from distance. He needs to be more of a factor on the glass against the better opponents. I think thats a major area he can help the Zags tighten, he's got the size and body to box out and grab some more boards.
Then we have the supporting cast...
Micah Downs averages 9 per and shoots 39% from 3, he also grabs 4.6 boards per game. He's another 4 year player and brings his 6'8" size to the table.
Stephen Grey 6'5" sophomore guard, another shooter for the zags averaging 9.3 per and shooting 36% from 3.
Robert Sacre, he's 7'0" and that's about it. He can be used to waste fouls on a big man and give Heytvelt a blow. He only played in 5 games this year so he's not very experienced but his size can be useful.
Wil Foster, he's 7'5" and 273 lbs he's another big man out there purely for his size. Maybe the kid can clog up the whole and bother some of their opponents big men. I wouldn't count on it but at least the Zags have the ability to throw a pair of 7 footers plus Heytvelt and Daye out their against UNC's Hansborough.
