Serve speed has very little to do with strength... its the whipping of the arm and snapping of the wrist. Its like a pitcher who throws 100 mph's. Do you think Tim Lincecum has a body builder body?
Nadal is a right handed player playing left handed. His serve has slowly improved over the years. He and his camp realized they had to improve it to win off of clay and they did.
The problem for Nadal is the whip motion of his groundies and the style of his game are brutal on the body. He is steadily breaking down.
Did he ever take steroids? anything is possible... but wouldn't say he did based on his body type

fed could handle it more losing at the french, but in 08 when rafa beat him at wimbledon, it got squarely in fed's head. then in 09 he beat him at aussie open.
nadal has been in fed's head for 3.5 yrs. this is such old news. check my thread history you'll see i've been saying this for yrs ![]()

The things I've noticed when these 2 play are a few things.
1) Fed has zero interest in getting in long rallies with Rafa, which leads to unecessary risks and a ton of unforced errors. Never seen so many damn tape jobs. Fed had to have hit the tape 10+ times in the 3rd set alone.
2) Basically a follow up point, but for some reason everyone and their mother know Rafa's weakness is his backhand. If we all know it, obviously Fed does as well. Yet, he's soooo stubborn he refuses to attack Rafa's backhand.
I think Fed's downfall in this particular H2H is he knows he can pull off the regular shots...and almost gets bored with himself.

wrong about nadal's backhand. his backhand is actually a weapon more than just about anyone else on tour except Djoker

Where in my statement did I compare it to other tour players? In relation to Rafa's game...his backhand is his weakness...and you can't argue that.

thats interesting because announcers like johnny mac, patrick mac, brad gilbert, et al, have talked about how is backhand is one of the strengths of his game because its so consistent and accurate, and he uses it as a weapon. besides, fed has played him 26-27 times, you honestly think he does not exactly what nadal's weakness(es) are?
HOGWASH

You apparently weren't watching the telecast last night, where both announcers were questioning why Fed wasn't attacking Rafa's backhand. Having it as a weapon does not means it's his most consistent shot...which once again was in my original post. I can't have a decent argument with you if you're not going to properly read my original statements. ![]()

A right handed tennis player who has swung a racket hundreds of thousand of times verse righties will naturally hit to the same side of the court when playing a lefty. Only when you attack a righties backhand you are now attacking a lefties forehand. Simple muscle memory and the way his brain works. I play tennis and I know how ingrained it becomes.
