Roddick withdraws from London

The knee injury has not sufficiently recovered enough for Roddick to compete.

Roddick will be replaced by ATP No. 9 Robin Soderling.

No. 10 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will assume the alternate role.

I don't think neither one of the Top 3 should be considered a clear favorite here with a big edge over the opponents.
Federer and Nadal for different reasons are not at their top and the fact you could buy Federer at +300 and Nadal at +560 is a clear proof of this.
Djokovic was great vs Nadal but was mediocre throughout the week and was lucky to win the tournament, besides I don't think he will be able to repeat after last year.
No value in backing either one of the 3 at these odds.

Verdasco at +2328 could be worth a look...
I personally don't like him but some of his interviews are promising:

"I am so happy to have qualified. It is such a big thing to finish among the top-eight...It is a new experience for me, my first time there. I will try my best as usual and enjoy it as much as I can. I have heard so many good things about the venue in London and I look forward to competing there against the best players in front of so many fans."

Verdasco is one of those clowns that chokes and throws matches in small tournaments but gets pumped on the big stage therefore the odds could be considered a bit high. In a good week he could trouble any of his opponents.

Murray, Del Potro and Davydenko's odds are about right.
The only 'mistake' I could see is with Verdasco.
I might throw a bit on him Saturday or Sunday.

He can pass the first round and then you could hedge. +2328 is a massive price which mean you could hedge for the last 3 rounds and make sure profit whatever happens. Nobody is outstanding these days so it could happen. Very long shot but worth a shot. I might play him to win 10 units so risking less than half a unit.

Without a betting perspective I say that Andy Murray will win.



 

I like Murray too strictly because of the home advantage. Monfils showed how big that is. Then Djokovic, Davydenko, and Soderling. Those three seem to be playing very well. I don't like the other guys. I really don't think Federer cares about this. I know it's a big tournament but he may be looking ahead to the slams next year. He's rusty from not playing much anyways. Nadal is too banged up. Delpo will probably find some injury to withdraw for, most likely the ab thing. Verdasco is a good player but I think he's overmatched here. I agree he could slip through the first round but should be gone after that. I might put some tiny money on Davydenko +1000 or Soderling +2000. Djokovic odds aren't even worth considering. Murray could be a good deal +400 or so. He surely will get past the first round (again because he's the home guy and the home guy doesn't lose easily)

Verdasco is +2800 now on bet365, but Murray is down to +350. I think Djokovic is the most in form going into this tournament, but he also has the lowest odds at +250... So it's not worth it... Might that a shot at Murray because of what Peter said of home field advantage. It showed in Wimbledon with him reaching the semis.

Murray is getting pounded for several reasons, including the fact everyone in the UK is looking for some action on the nationally televised tournament and guess who thy are betting?


Make no mistake guys, if I bet Verdasco it would be exclusively looking to hedge at some point. This huge number allows you to make sure profit if he passes the first round. Of course chances he will actually win the entire thing are very slim. I knew chances were that most bets were coming on each player apart from Verdasco and this is why I am waiting until the last minute to get some extra.

but btw I do think Del Potro can make a run at the second set. He is much more talented than has been on display thus far. And he is tough enough to play well through injury.

and the low bounce make me think they designed the court to favor Murray.

well TC I think the loss to Bennetau (sp) and Djoker recently (given that it was in his hometown) show some vulnerability on the part of Fed. If he displays that caliber of indifference in the match today, which I think is highly possible, then Verdasco has every chance to take it from him. I think you will be able to tell by the pace on Federer's shots off the forehand wing in the rallies how much he wants this one.
