Since Monday 6/25 will be a slow posting day, I figured I'd start ths discussion.
The next Play of The Week Contest will start next Monday, July 2nd and ontinue for 6 months until the end of the year.
1) I have no problems continuing to run the Contest. However if someone would like to take it over and put their spin on it for the next 6 months, lemme know.
2) give your input as to what you liked and what you would like to see changed to make it more fun and interesting.
3) personally, I like the simplicity of the total or 1X2 bets capped at -400. This Contest had many well capped picks for people to tail.
4) I believe one pick per week has always been the best way to go. Any more than that and it gets to be a nightmare for the person running and updating the Contest each week.
5) as it turned out, the 20 pick minimum did its job to keep the "regular" contributors in the competition. It is not a lot to ask for someone to pop in the Forum once a week for 20 of the 26 weeks to post a play.
I welcome EVERYBODY'S comments, criticisms, and new ideas.
On a side note, a continued thanks to BigGameBubba for his effort each week in the CPL Contest. I'm facing relegation, and will be sad when I can't post daily in it anymore.

Bake... Your work effort is second to none...I speak for all when I say thank you for all that you have done.....
....Your enthusiasm would be sadly missed in the CPL.....Hope you find your way out of the basement...
As for the Play of the week contest....My only concern is with the -400 to +400 range....I personally think that dropping that level to -250 and +250 will increase focus among cappers....and hopefully eliminate some of these juicy plays that are being passed as plays of the week... What good does it do for an onlooker to get tipped off on a play of -400...
One thing I wouldn't change is your system of letting bigger prices to be used....only to be credited the max ceiling level..(+money)

Bake, Thank-you the work involved running this contest and I wouldn't change a thing especially limiting the amount credited on a +400 limit or the limit itself. Good luck in the CPL as well.

I will re-iterate my opposition to the capping of prices. I don't understand what's wrong with picking a -900 favorite if you can make money off it. Yes, picking one -900 favorite is not impressive, but to make money you would have to be over 90% successful. If someone can make money doing so then hats off to them -- it shouldn't matter where you see value.

Army, your opinion has, and will always be, appreciated. Your thoughts do not fall on deaf ears.
G4P, feel free to jump in the next contest with a pick a week...
Fast frank, BGB, madash, billy. Thanks guys. But this isn't a Bake Appeciation Thread......LOL. I want to make this challenging for all involved, and would love to see the majority of the forum posting week in and week out. At the same time, I don't want to drive people away with frivolity...
Keep the thoughts coming....

U did a great job Bake any open spot for me on the next contest?
Friendly advice : I think the range should from -250 to +400 . I think picking a winner on a -400 pick is risky & not a smart bet at all. Lost on a pick and have to win 4 picks in a row to make it even? We all know there's no " sure " win in soccer. And maybe I like to bet longshot a lot, I'll always try to squeeze out the most value in a pick. As you can see from my CPL picks, I've over 3.5 and sometimes 4.5 in my picks. But +250 limit a lot of my picks. There were a few times I want to pick a longshot ML or over 4.5 for my picks but I can't bcos the pick is limit within +250.

I actually agree with Arky.......you dont need a cap because if people want to bet big faves that should be their choice. It all comes down to making money in the long run and it would be monitored either way.

over +400 is sometimes very reasonable pick, just remember how Akranes started earlier this year or surprises in EPL final rounds, how close QPR +2400 was or Liverpools +700 losses ? Of course you can play dogs with handicap but hc is not available to all matches.
maybe -300 - no limit but to win the contest you must win over 50% of picks ?
Thanks again for running this competition Bake

Snafu, you bring up good points. The issue that has come up with no limit plus money us we see people trying to hit home runs with +3000 plays, and the Contest turns into a circus the last month of competition.
Ideally, we are trying to get people to post their BEST play of the week, one that has a good chance to win, so you can add to your total.
I also want people to be able to come into the thread and have confidence that the wagers posted have been given some thought and capped properly.
