i found this interesting write-up ...i thought it would be useful for those are already jumping on Barca to Qualify... minding you chelsea is barca's nightmare coz we hold a great record against them... referee and diving would be the only thing to nock us out at this stage....

First of all, I commend merlin's new series on getting to know VC members better. And yes, I too do like Rammstein merlin.

Now coming to the point. Barcelona have had the whole world except Jose and Ibra wax lyrical about them. Just today morning I woke up to the news. An article titled 'sorry Chelsea, but Barcelona can start celebrating now'.

Here's the best part. I don`t remember the name of the writer. I think I did for 5 seconds but it's not in my nature to remember the names of unimportant people. Call me arrogant. But that's just me. I believe in confidence. I believe in having the balls (but not showing them around like Louis van Gaal).

Whoever wrote that can go feck himself. When the Manchester twins got kicked out in the group stages (by teams we eventually beat) the media was strangely quite. So here's what saber says to you:-

'why don`t you write about that. Why not ask Arsene why he never wins anything. But that's hardly news considering he always loses the plot in the business end. Why not ask 'King Kenny' why Liverpool will never walk again, or Old Arry as to why the spuds are back to being pathetic. I'm not even a professional journalist or a writer but I seem to do a better job than you guys do on a weekly basis. Who hired you in the first place?'

Yes Barcelona are good. But they do have tactical chinks in their armour which special coaches can exploit. Their weakness is their backline and the joke of a goalkeeper called Valdes. It's never exposed because most teams play with an inferiority complex and are too scared to fight these midgets.

They also have other weaknesses which I will expose as the discussion goes by.

1. Valdes - He's Spains third best goalkeeper for a reason. He's not exactly unbeatable. In fact he's their weakest link. He is not like other goal keepers who lob the ball up front. He tries to be cute and always passes the ball to the defence as Barca prefer to build the attack from the back. So I'd have my forward line run at him at full sprint menacingly. Two on him and one floating behind midfield at the ready to steal the ball as soon he screws up his pass under pressure.

2. The back 3 - Dani Alves is totally out of the defensive picture and is more interested in attacking down the right. So by defacto Barcelona end up with 3 centre backs, which brings me to point 3.

3. Puyol - is not a natural left back, leaving a huge weak gap on our right flank. I'd have someone with tricks and pace like Danny screwing him around. We can expose Puyol's age and Danny`s hammer of a left leg can catch lazy Valdez at any minute!

4. Mascherano - the former scouser has a weakness, his temper. Play at it. We need our centre forward to irritate this boy. Toy with him. Do what it takes. Get his temper fired up because when you do he's prone to the odd red mist moment where he'll run out of the back line at you for revenge forgetting his duty leaving a gaping hole or, make a silly challenge, or deliberately fight you. There's a penalty / booking / defensive error waiting in that psycho.

Normally you'd want the Drogs to do that part out. But these days he's become too much of a gentleman to do so. Plus he seems to lack pace. But what he does provide is an aerial threat which the midgets have a weakness for. Quick counter attacks on the flanks and crosses with some heading accuracy can rattle the Catalan actors. Torres when in form for Athletico made a habit of ghosting past the defence.

But the question is he good enough now. While he does suit the counter attacking style it's his mental toughness that I worry about. The Drogs always seems to turn up on the big occasions. However Torres's Spanish may help rile up the Argentine Mascherano. Whoever plays the role of centre forward will have to be a grade-A villain and beast over the two legs.

5. Piquet - Alves's attacks down the leaves Shakira's boyfriend doing both the right back and the centre back duties. This is where Rami's sheer pace on the counter can drag him out leaving poor old Mascherano with too much to do. Plus Rami can help out Cole defensively as Alves attacks from the right and Messi plays somewhat rightish as he is left footed.

6. Biscuits - will be shielding the back 3 and occasionally diving left right and centre. Mata must out smart biscuits, and use his growing reputation of being a cheat against him by indulging in the odd dive himself. I know some of you might cringe at the idea of play acting but there is a famous saying in my native tongue, 'to remove a thorn you need to use a thorn'...

7. Xavi and Iniesta - right now judged as the best players in the world following Messi and Ronaldo it will take something special to stop these two. I say a double pivot of Essien (if fully fit or Mikel in his place), and Luiz in front of our back 4 will screw up their midfield. Disruption is the name of the game. Ess will have to do what he did to Stevie G in that Champions League on Xavi, whose not exactly the fastest player around and pulls the strings from the centre. Luiz's pace and trickery can put Iniesta quiet and when he's not up to that he can do a job on Fabregas who sits being an attacking duo of Messi and Cuenca / Pedro.

8. Fabregas - to stop him we need our defensive midfielders and centre backs to work in tandem. It important our midfield and defence lines stay compact as it's the space in between where Fabregas operates from.

9. Messi - his right-ish positioning in an attacking duo means Cole has to play the game of his life. Alves will try to pull Cole out at which time Terry will have to watch Messi really carefully. This also why Rami must track back to help Cole and Terry to create a 3 on 2 situation. Meanwhile my other old fashioned centre back Cahill must be on an alert to mop up any mess while minding Fabre / Miniesta / Pedro surges with Iva's help.

10. Pedro / Cuenca - can be taken care of by an Iva and Cahill combo. Mind Miniesta and Fabre meanwhile. Luiz to help. And Sturridge, TRACK BACK AND DEFEND!

So basically we are playing a 4-4-1-1 in defence and 4-2-3-1 in quick counter attacks.

Team - Cech - Iva, Cahill, Terry, Cole - Mikel / Essien / Luiz - Rami, Mata. Studge - Torres / Drogs

Barcelona is not good, they are great. Chelsea is average, maybe a little above average at best. This is a total class mismatch.

You call Valdes a joke, but what does that make Cech? Cech is either the same or worse.

The same point you make for Dani Alves can be made for David Luiz. Sometime Luiz forgets what position he plays. He is a defender with the mind of a striker.

I think your incredibly bias in your write-up of this game. Chelsea has 1 scoring option. Didier Drogba. If Drogba does not play great vs Barcelona, Chelsea will get embarrassed. Chelsea has very few playmakers anymore period. They depend on Mata to set everything up, and if he does not, it is a free for all.

I do not know why you feel so strong about Cahill and Iva either. Neither of those guys is that great. Barca's passing attack should be able to eat them up.

Chelsea lacks playmakers. Lampard is nowhere near the player he used to be. If not for Mata and Drogba this team would be nothing.

Chelsea will get slaughtered in this matchup.

you said the same things about us vs Benfica...and it was a big loss for you i guess so you are in a EMOTIONAL stage where you wanna prove somthing...im just saying at this stage everything is possible.. i know chelsea have in rough time but they are doing their best..cnsidering this will be the last chance for most players in blue shirt..so expect players to bleed for 90 min to win it all...Chelsea have more to play for...i also expect Bayern to beat RM...

don't get caught up with media ...most writers copy and paste change things around that's how they get paid..more clicks more money.. they write what is popular...

if you could read you would know i had benfica +1 (-150) so i pushed. good call tho douche.

chelsea is finished. barcelona will har loads of opportunities against that shitty chelsea defense. cech is no longer a good goalie and i honestly believe your delusional if you think chelsea has a chance in this matchup.

ramirea sucks. meireles sucks. lampard is old and no longer that good. fernando torres may be the worst player in the premier league. cahill, luiz, and iva are all defenders who are overly aggressive in trying to attack and chelsea usually gets burnt for it. a team with the passing capabilities of barca will shred chelsea. lets not even bring up the gigantic coaching mismatch barca has as well

as i said before, chelsea has one scoring option, drogba. mata is their only player who can create something. chelsea needs those two guys to have the games of their lives to compete with barca.

As bad as Torres has been in the past, he's been playing well lately. He tracks back and defends, hustles and closes down the ball, creating opportunities, and his movement has been very good.

I love seeing Torres not score because it's fun to make a big deal out of it, but lately he's been playing well.

As for the debate at hand, anybody can beat anybody. All it takes is one goal here or one call there and the tie is impacted dramatically. I admit Barca has more talent and class but that doesn't ALWAYS translate into victories.

Both of you bring up decent points, hopefully it leads to for both of you

I could care less if he scores or not he is as you said doing very well in assisting and creating chances...and thats another great example of how media can brain wash the public... for those who read and not watch would believe what is written..not what is going on on the pitch..

With all due respect chelseafan, I disagree with 99% of this post.  I understand you are a fan but it seems like that is clouding your judgement.  Blindly saying that Chelsea beat Benfica is hardly fair at any rate.  They were completely outplayed, at home, by 10 men.  In fact, if there's no red card in the first half then I really question if Chelsea is able to hold onto their lead for so long.  Did they win? Yes.  Do they win that game 5 out of 10 times if it's replayed the same way? No way.

Then you say that Chelsea have more to play for....what?  Barcelona doesn't want to win the Champions League?  Realistically, this is their most important competition right now considering that Real are running away from them in La Liga.  Chelsea are fighting for their CL spot next year in the league as well as the CL currently.  The bottom line is that the CL semis is the biggest match on both teams schedules; neither team is more motivated.

The only thing I have to agree with you on is the media bs in general.  Even if you agree with parts of it, the media's job is not to paint a fair picture, its to sell subscriptions, views, etc.

and just to add to arkadymo's point...benfica almost won that tie and advanced...Chelsea was a man up in the 21st minute and couldn't even put them away

and about Fernando Torres...you guys are covering for him and its sad......he is still a striker right ? correct? what are strikers supposed to do? score goals if you didn't know that. how many goals has torres scored this year? He is friggin awful. He doesn't even deserve to play for Wolverhampton. And how many times have you seen a loose ball fall right into Fernando's feet and he either somehow falls down to the ground like an idiot or just shanks it out of bounds? I have never seen someone so clums in the box.

Barca will probably tie in the first leg and then win handily at home at camp Nou. Have fun trying to stop a guy who can score a hat trick on any given day.

" referee and diving would be the only thing to nock us out at this stage.... "

LOL ok, I also see you spoke in first person there; or maybe your on the team.

Chelseafan, celebrate that your team are in the "final four" and while anything can and does happen on a sports pitch, diamond, court etc, for chelsea to overcome barca over 2 legs a helluva lot of things have to go the blues way, youre better off concentrating on how your lot will beat tottenham in the FA cup, thats your only chance of silverware this season.

i will try to answer everyone in one post here...

Barca should have been nocked out on the hand of Milan where 1-1 where a PK was given on a action before the ball played and the other one was fishy as well....its clearly milan planed  to take this on a away goal terms even before they played the first leg why? Italians are the masters of draws...(thanx to the ref)

Chelsea were toying with Fica after 1-0 ..why would you take off terry and play cahill and meralise for lampard....

you all make Barca to be the perfect team which means wining 38 games in la liga and win every game in del ray and every game in the CL...none of that has happened..so they are not perfect..
not to mention losing to Getafe and Real sociedad and six draws..

why is chelsea pushing for 4th in epl? well its comon sense they have to, they get nocked out of the CL they will restore that for next year...

why did they struggle ...three letters for AVB..

who is the best  in england ?

Chelsea ....why ? still in the FA, CL and EPL ....

if Getafe and Socidad can do it we have a chance....we wont lay down and hand it to them..

its all about tactics and mind game..

i know a team like Newcastle can beat Barca easily and i didn't pick them randomly .. its their formation and tactics that fits the equation..

all we need to do is wait and see..

I love how you stick up for your team. Unfortunately, this ain't the right forum. It's really clear your fandom is clouding your analysis though.

I'm sure there's plenty of Barca message boards where you can duke it out w/ them.  Or, Chelsea MBs where you can feel even better about your team's chances.

Yea sorry chelseafan, you're fandom is getting in the way of objectivity.  If you truly believe that Chelsea are the best team in the EPL then I have nothing else to say for you.  You are too subjective to even argue with.  To think that Chelsea were 'toying' with Benfica while they were getting passed off the field is nearly comical as well.  To each his own I guess, I just hope you don't lose too much money betting on your home team in the CL.

Oh good god, this is too much.

Earlier today I spent about half an hour writing a response to each one of the completely incorrect and in some cases blatantly false points. Then right as I was about to post I clicked the original link thinking it would open in a new tab, and it didn't, and when I clicked back my post was gone, so I said darn it and didn't respond.

But just know, you are so friggin deluded by your team bias, lol. You speak about how "we" are being brainwashed by the media, and yet you clutch at these 10 incorrect points and have been completely persuaded that they are correct.

Then you go on to say that Chelsea are the best team in England.

I mean, really? Because you're still in the EPL, UCL, and FA Cup??? Here's some news. You are going to finish 5th in EPL, semis of FA Cuo, and semis of UCL.

And then you go on to say a team like Newcastle can beat Barca easily, because you understand tactics.

Like just how daft/clouded are you? Newcastle would be RIPPED APART by Barca.

I mean come on my man.

Love threads like these though, because I will be HAMMERING Barca to qualify, no matter the price.

This is ridiculous man..

There is no reason to argue with him here. I'd like to hear your thoughts after the first game.. I say Barca dominates and finishes this one in England..

I could easily see Barcelona winning the aggregate score by 4 or more

I bet on Barca to win it all a couple months ago at +155 odds. I went fairly large on this one and don't regret it one bit. Chelsea...gimme a break. I'd be shocked if barca didn't beat them by an aggregate of 4 goals or better

First of all, Chelsea was winning on aggregate 1-0 against FICA. They really didn't have to win. They could have gotten a draw and still moved on.

Really depends on if Barca is going to pay the ref for the fix or not.
Chelsea vs Barca just reminds me of that huge FIXED match last time.

I'll be cheering for Drogba's IT'S A F*CKING DISGRACE! REVENGE MODE

good write up Chelsea

I just love this on how many of you fading Chelsea and going with Barcelona

Just check out the history between Barcelona VS Chelsea, they never dominate us in any game

Barcelona humiliated almost every single team they played against in the CL, AC Milan, Man U......

We always play them well, so why not now

I know you are gonna say they are not the same as before, they are much better than before, well guess what every good caper looks at history for picking games, so why not in this game too, Barcelona never beat us by more than one goal and yes we never beat them but all we have to do is keep it close and not allow an away goal which it will be very tough but anything could happen......

just to add to this....

Chelsea has now 3 holding midfielders, Essien, Mikel and Lampard, those 3 guys can defend, why you think Lampard has been dropped to a holding midfielder position, I'm sure not for fun, there is a huge reason behind it, if the first legs ends 0-0, watch Chelsea play 4-5-1

look what Ac Milan did, one counter attack and they scored, Chelsea has to do the same thing, once Barcelona loses the ball just pass it to Mata and let him feed the ball to Torres in the front and pray to god he scores....
