After a good start on Wednesday I blew it yet again. My instinct was to just hit the Uruguay pick, but instead I decided on the draw as a better result and Uruguay punished South Africa bad (the red card didn't help either).
Thursday's games are all very dubious, but I think I can pull a few picks out of the crapper.
Argentina vs. South Korea
Argentina was mostly dominant against Nigeria, who had a few chances, and as expected South Korea took it to the Greek(s). Both sides need 3 points to practically guarantee moving up, but I think everything will reside with Argentina in this match. They'll still to attack heavily with the 4-3-3 and the South Koreans will look instead to defend and counterattack where they can. But it won't be enough.
Argentina -200 for 6 units (okay so yeah being a little bit more careful here).
Greece vs. Nigeria
Both sides were disappointing for various reasons in the first game of the tournament; Greece because it sucks, Nigeria because it couldn't muster much offense yet managed to prevent Argentina from scoring more than one goal. Greece will be more defensive now, but actually if Nigeria has any chance of moving forward, they absolutely positively must win this game. They should have just enough to do so. I think the Greeks will be the Greeks, unpredictable and uninspiring yet again. In the end both teams however will struggle to score in any event, meaning I like the Under still.
Nigeria +103 for 4 units Greece vs. Nigeria UNDER 2 goals (-133): 6 units
France vs. Mexico
Going for Mexico is so incredibly tempting. The French camp is reportedly in disarray; former players like Zidane are all over them, they have barely had a chance to practice in proper conditions, and Mexico believes they are ripe for the plucking. Several prominent French players are under threat of suspension for the 3rd game after picking up yellows against Uruguay. Mexico sees weakness and I think they are keen enough to exploit it. Note however that France has never lost to Mexico in the Cup (they in fact played the very first game in 1930). And the French may start Henry and the team will be well aware of what it's fans at home think. The odds are wonky and I just can't pull the trigger right now. It smells like a draw--which France just can't afford--but I am very uncertain here. So no bet.
Open bets: 3 (16 units)
