Man was walking his 2 year old son by the 7 Seas Lagoon near the Grand Floridian when a gator attacked and snatched the 2 year old. The father tried to grab it but was unsuccessful.

I can't even fathom what the parents and siblings must be going through.
Poor little boy. RIP
I'm sure a lot of money will be spent on therapy and rightfully so. The parents will never be the same after the incident. At least the father made a heroic attempt to fight for the toddler.
"Don't swim" and "Alligator caution" signs were in the area. Can't take these creatures too lightly.
Search is right though; they're not scared of humans if they're routinely fed by them.

Gators and Crocs are super slow, tactical and methodical when they approach and attack prey so he had to be there for awhile... Says in the story that the little boy was hit around 9:30pm and was playing both in and near the water's edge - that is prime time hunting hour. Sadly, that little feller had no chance but hopefully felt nothing.under 2k lbs of bite pressure.

The thing is I was just at Disney and I'm sure many people have been.
It's a man made lake surrounded by man made resorts with a monorail transportation system going around it. There is an island destination in the middle of it, ferries and boats going back and forth on it all day and night, and man made beaches that go right up to the water.
Now I don't care where it is, I would feel weird letting my child play by a lake at night, but still this is Disney World. Those no swimming signs are because there are no lifeguards. The last thing people from Nebraska are worrying about surrounded by Donald Duck character breakfasts and outdoor movie viewings is a man eating gator.

Parents didn't do anything wrong at all imo. That was a freak of nature tragedy. 23 gator attacks on humans in 70 years is against all odds -especially in a cup of water. Wrong place wrong time at night. The gator sized up that toddler as a large rodent.

I agree - no real blame to the parents or Disney... just a very freak accident. A truckload of cash will be paid for this... but I don't think this will see a courtroom
As a father, I have often pondered how I would deal with such a thing. By boys are grown now, but it never ends.... you don't want to outlive your children.
Just awful news. That Orange county sheriff is having a very bad week... I feel for him as well.

Yeah. that poor sheriff is about to collapse and I wouldn't blame him. I also think Disney will settle out for a 7 figure amount of money. Ya just have to have a sign that reads "Caution Alligators" somewhere. Tourists have no idea that these reptiles are everywhere in Florida, even at the world's safest place.

There, now that's a little more concise and accurate post.
Not my exact posting, but I still agree none-the-less,
Even at the water's edge, there's water moccasins/cottonmouths. I lived there for several years and it's a different world down there.
Unless you from there and don't know any better, I don't know how people do it. The heat, humidity, bugs, pace of life, old people behind the wheel, etc. I couldn't wait to make it back to the Garden State.
Randy is on-point. These gators use sewers to swim from retention pond to retention in search of new sources of food.
I also do NOT (that's for you Scalabrine) blame the parents because they're from NE and are ignorant of this fact. I also DONT (again for you Scal) think Disney is at fault either for not placing "alligator caution" signs. A freak accident on their property due to its natural inhabitants is all.
If anything comes out of this tragic incident, it's the American public (outside of FL) will be aware that a gator could be lurking in that nasty, smelly "fresh" stagnant water that plagues that disgusting state.

I don't know you prospect other than you are clearly clueless
FL has a HUGE GDP and there are all sorts of people there - just like every other state.
Personally, I don't care for FL so much - otherwise I would have moved there. Too hot and too flat. Hurricanes are a big turnoff for me personally. Nice resorts and a nice escape for northerners. It has it's good and bad like any other place.
