Apologies in advance. Total rookie to this world. Similar to cigarettes, is there an element in canabus that damages the lungs?
I've researched this topic extensively and most will tell you that there are roughly 50 to 70% more carcinogens in cannabis smoke than cigarette smoke. However, people that smoke weed don't intake nearly as much smoke as cigarette smokers, and there isn't one case on record of a cannabis-only smoker getting brown lung disease. No research has supported the notion that smoking cannabis leads to lung cancer, and Dr. Donald Tashkin of UCLA conducted a study lasting over 30 years and found that there is no positive correlation between smoking cannabis and lung cancer. He in fact found that cannabis smokers have a DECREASED chance of getting cancer than does the general public that smokes nothing. Harvard and Brown University also did studies supporting the same findings. Some cannabis smokers have, however, claimed that they have a persistent cough.
The theory is that while the smoke contains carcinogens, the cancer fighting chemicals in THC and CBD (and other cannabinoids) combat any long term damaging effects. Smoking anything however is generally not good as it makes your body more acidic.
I personally do not worry about the effects on the lungs, but you can always choose to vape or ingest orally (brownies, cookies, etc). That takes care of that.
Given the research, I actually use cannabis for health reasons (among other reasons of course). I've heard too many highly educated people say that it can help prevent cancer and Alzheimer's. I know for a fact it has cancer fighting properties, so it's really not that much of a stretch at all. That said, who knows, at this point, what else it can do.
