You can have Tupac and Biggie. Both very good indeed, but also pushed in the publics face the most.

 

For my money its Brotha Lynch Hung.

The ORIGINAL rapper--Bobby Pickett in 1962's 'Monster Mash'.  While pretending to be Boris Karloff, he rapped the entire song 10 years before anyone thought of it.  Brilliant.

Eminem is excellent.

Kendrick Lamar is very legit, although I feel that as great as good kid maad city is, it's actually over-hyped.

The best in the business right now is BIG K.R.I.T.

I remember someone on here, somewhere in the music forum I believe, posting a link to 'Monn & Stars' by Big KRIT.  Downloaded 'Krit Wuz Here' and that was it, I friggin love this dude.  His 'mixtapes' are better than everyone elses albums... not a surprise that his only studio album was his worst piece, but still very good.
