Humanity is a dying trait.  The greatest generation, the people who banned together across the globe, the people that defeated Hitler and Hirohito, are dying as we speak.

Nothing lasts forever.  Time keeps marching on.

The Newtown Elementary shooting really had me thinking for several days / weeks after the incident. I was really embarrassed at what we have become as humans and as a society. 

I am 23 years old, finishing up college, and work at a grocery store part time. From dealing with tons of customers over the past 3 years, I honestly find that about 90-95% of people are nice, decent, cordial, normal and somewhat friendly. It's the others that are rude, uninformed, loud, obnoxious and have zero consideration for those around them. I hate those people and it makes me wonder about humanity. 

The good news is that most people seem good at heart. Maybe we can build upon that.

My daughter tells me this all the time. She is going to college and got a job working at Disneyland about 6 months ago, at first she loved it and still kind of does but every time she comes home she has a story about all the @ssholes she encounters.

She has learned what I didn't want to teach her, 99% of people have no concern for their fellow man and are self entitled @ssholes.

Once in a while I come across somebody who gives me a ray of hope but it's few and far between.

Also have lost faith in our country, love my country but the idiots running the show are destroying us from within. Greed and corruption are the prevailing traits in politics.

This isn't a Dems vs. Repubs rant I have equal disdain for both parties, F U C K them all. I really do weep for our future.

I think it all depends where you decide to hang around at or the mood you're in. I have found that people in general are good if you're in a happy mood. If you are pissed off or self indulged that is when you see the bad in people. It's easier to see the bad in people then to see the good if that's what you expect. Change it up a little go somewhere that you would expect people to be nice.

I may be a little off topic here but ... generally speaking ... most anybody can be nice sometimes and very many can be nice most of the time, but very few can be nice when it counts the most.  So when does it count the most? When YOU'RE in duress, upset, having a bad day, etc, etc ... if you can be a decent human being when it's hard to be in that particular moment, pat yourself on the back.

The more difficult things get in my life the more I enjoy making other people laugh and smile but then again I'm a pretty social guy.

There's good and compassion in everybody and we're all in this hell together. Not complicated, just takes practice to engage even the biggest arshole.

I work a lot with people and am consistently shocked by the lack of respect people have for one another and wonder what happened to manners. Then I watch some TV and figure it out.

The 'greatest generation' were the beneficiaries of 'separate but equal' and took jobs, housing, education and basic general welfare to the exclusion of millions of others all based on one and one thing only: their race.

Doesn't sound so 'great' after that now does it...

Thank god any sensible person has a different generation of 'great' today.

I know what you mean, It's just not 'cool' to be nice anymore. I blame hip hop and bad parenting or lack of parenting for this, The other day i saw a 14/15/16 year old looking girl with her lip,eyebrow and most probably tongue pierced, Where are the parents?? I blame it on this new wave of free will, hippie style of parenting where 'Oh we're happy as long as our kids are happy' crap. In other words you can't be bothered to attempt to be a good parent so you just accept all the crap your kid does or gets up to.

Actually, it sounds great. The problems started in this country when all that started changing.

A newborn was found at Sandy Beach, Oahu, abandoned shortly after birth.  Good news is the baby is doing well in the hospital.  Bad news is whoever is the culprit can be arrested for we have  a safe haven law that any newborn can be surrendered at a fire station, police station or emergency worker or hospital with no penalty.  Now this person can be punishable.  A few years back a young child was thrown over a freeway overpass by a mentally challenged individual.  The parents allegedly ice users.  We have a very sick society.
