Is anyone else struggling to actually sit and watch a game these days? I just can't do it anymore. No matter the importance of said game... whether it be the playoffs,
championship or whatever the case may be, I just find the whole process
dull. I just don't have the patience to sit there and watch a game.
Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm at the point in my life where I have other things on my mind?! Hell, even gambling(which I do very seldom these days) does little to increase my interest level. I flat out don't give a fu*k anymore.
Does anyone else feel this way? Have our sports become so predictable to the point of boredom? With all the access fans have these days, are we being overwhelmed with way too much?!

i was thinking the same thing. the quality of sports hsa gone downhill in a big way over the yeatrs in my opinion.
mfl- i still like it but with the new rules the refs do such a terrible job implementing and what is practically a running clock so the broadcast is the same length but the actual game is much shorter and the extra time is made up with commercial after commercial. i can't watch it live anymore.
CFB- with the ridiculous figure skating post season model, the entire league is basically pointless.
CBB- ridiculous charge calls, refs blowing the whistle every 10 seconds, especially at the end of the game, each team gets 100 timeouts. it's painful to watch.
i haven't been able to watch the nba in years. baseball has been boring to me for a while.
basically, i like soccer, the nfl is still ok and college football will hopefully have some meaning and get better once they get a playoff.

I dont really agree at all. I am really enjoying the nba playoffs and always enjoy the nhl playoffs. Do i miss watching jordan sure. Still a lot of good players out there. You say its predictable yet you're hitting 38% of your league contest picks. I would agree its you and you've just lost interest or are losing a lot and dont care anymore.

I was talking to a friend about this today. I don't watch much sports anymore. I started betting consistently again the past 6 months after several year hiatus but I still don't watch many games other than football season and even that is hit and miss. I'll check the scores on my phone etc. but don't sit through a game unless I am at a bar and even then I don't focus too much.

Yea can just deal with the football anymore and march madness. Other then that it bores the hell out of me. I still make a few bets, maybe catch a game if I'm in a city that offers it, but not much more then that. Even the nfl I have to drink to stay engaged if not I will just check the scores to see if I won.

When you say you have other things on your mind, What do you mean by that? If you're suffering from depression or something along those lines do something about it mate, Don't just assume it's a stage of life thing, Go speak to a doctor if you can. If it's family/marriage issues well then there's nothing you can do but weather the storm and you will be stronger for it, We all go through that bullsheet.
I know this is going to sound really dumb since you're Canadian but try giving cricket a try, It goes on for 5 days and is virtually played at a snails pace however it's an interesting sport when you watch the elite nations play and it gives you the time to gather your thoughts whilst you watch the match. Both teams have 2 innings, Where you have to get 10 batsman (hitters) out and if after 5 days both teams have not gotten each side out twice the game ends in a draw. It sounds boring and complicated i know but this summer England plays the old enemy, Australia, Will be a fantastic time to pop your cherry when it comes to watching cricket, I will be trying to get my fellow covers friends to watch since there's no better advert for Cricket than England and Australia going at it.
Even the Minnesota Vikings players gave cricket a go when they were in town a month ago.

Agreed I took a hiatus from betting while I was in training and really haven't been able to get into sports since I got back. I think after betting for the past 8ish years then stopping I've lost all enjoyment of the game itself.

gambling can ruin it for you.... then everything else seems boring...
for me fantasy sports both makes it more interesting and ruins the normal game for me...
college sports makes more sense when you are local and alumni... I say this because of the local coverage and buzz that keeps it interesting... watching a bunch of college kids from a university that you have no connection with makes no sense...
sports to me also stays more interesting if you are still competing or playing something yourself... I still participate in competitive sports, usually over 30 leagues, but this gives you the experience and brain chemicals associated with playing sports so when you watch it seems more relevant...

Your interests are what's actually changing with age. Happens to everybody. As you get older-you realize that sports-on a yearly basis-is never ending & like a revolving door. As you get older you start to realize that it's all never ending bulls--t.

I remember you created a thread with the title of "what's the point of all this?" a year or two ago and left the site with nothing more to say.
Obviously you are back but your feelings about gambling have extended to sports.
That's perfectly fine. If you have other things in your life that interest you that are better than gambling and watching sports(which are a diversion from real life), more power to you, as long as those things are positive influences on your well-being.

In addition to that, I have trouble rooting for what really are the .01% of all income earners in the world.
I'm not envious, but contract disputes when they are fighting for an extra $10 million on a $130 million makes me laugh.
Also, when they lose, how do you feel bad for them? They live lives far beyond anything anyone could imagine in terms of wealth.
Lastly, how do you cheer for teams with so much turnover? Let's say you are a spoiled lakers fan. Kobe will be gone in two years and Dwight might leave (who isn't even a 'real' laker) as will Pau leave. They have ONE player under contract after next year...Nash, and he's not even a true laker, which leaves you cheering for one thing: the laundry.
And who wants to cheer for 'laundry' over the long term?

For me it's been about ten years--mostly due to all of the timeouts they allow coaches, plus the mandatory TV breaks.
A locally shown NBA game used to be over in 2 hours, but they're now as long as a nationally televised game used to be, and the national games are rarely over in under 2h 45m, and run into the second game.
Just five years ago, in NCAAB, only the tourney games were longer due to the obligatory timeouts every four minutes, but that has now expanded to every game that's televised.
I now only watch about 5 hours of sports a week, compared to 20 hours ten years ago.

It's funny that you made this thread when the NHL playoffs is about to start in a couple of days. You should be pumped for the NHL playoffs since all they do in Canada is eat and drink Hockey!!!

Several people have made this point, and I agree. There is no flow to the games anymore. Way too many stops and starts because of television and overzealous coaches who feel the need to micromanage the game. Basketball is nearly unwatchable and the other sports are heading in that direction.
