Based on media news, seller fraud seems to be a bigger concern than buyer fraud.  Ebay policies tend to favor buyers more than sellers.

Just make sure you read the descriptions well and ask them questions if you are unsure of quality and the like.  As a seller, you usually should buy insurance when you mail it, because a trick buyers use is they will say they haven't received the product, then will want you to refund the money.  Basically they get your item free.

read seller's feedback

pay with paypal and make sure the funds draw upon a credit card instead of paypal balance or checking account
--if something goes wrong, you can first file a claim with ebay/paypal, if that doesn't work out, you can then file a chargeback with your credit card company

make sure the item location is in the United States, instead of China or somewhere else

Aren't u protected by PayPal as far as sellers fraud?  I've made about 10-15 eBay purchases in my life and only one bad experience ..... PayPal returned my funds.

Paypal protects us sellers as well.  I've had thousands of ebay transactions as a seller and can count on 1 hand the number of issues I've ever had.  Each time I was covered by Paypal seller protection because I had done the necessary steps required by Paypal.

I bought a car off ebay and never batted an eye.  Like GG says, stay away from sellers with bad feedback.

I've bought and sold on E-bay for years with no problems. The only negative I have are the high fees they charge the sellers.

There are times when Paypal will side with the seller and you don't get any of your money back. That's why it's good to pay with paypal and draw upon a credit card, so you can go to the credit card company if everything goes to hell.

There have been times I was scammed by an ebay seller (counterfeits, bait and switch, completely wrong item, etc) and I filed a paypal claim and for some reason paypal decided in the seller's favor.
Therefore I didn't get my money back.

I then went to my credit card company and got my money back through them.

I bought a 1980 Corvette off ebay for $9K.  Drove it for four years, never put a dime into it, and sold it for $8K.

Most fun ebay purchase I ever made.
