If the police called you for questioning, would you go?

There was a crime (theft) committed at my former place of employment, and it happened during the time that I worked there, according to the Officer that I talked to over the phone.

The Police officer wants me to come in for questioning. He says that he is doing an investigation... would you go in to talk to him? 

I am innocent of any wrongdoing, but just don't feel comfortable, unless I had a Lawyer with me...which I can't afford.

What do you guys think? What would you guys do?

"A person is not required to talk to the police. He should politely refuse their request to go to the station. If he is taken into custody, he should refuse to answer any questions unless he has a lawyer present.

Police are trained interrogators and can use many tricks to get information out of someone. For instance, they will often tell a person they are not under arrest and can leave at any time, when the really plan to arrest the person as soon as their questions are answered. If they just arrested the person at the beginning, they would have to inform him of his right to remain silent and to have an attorney present during any questioning."

Everything that I am reading online from Lawyers that answered other peoples questions, the Lawyers are saying to NOT go...it makes me feel like I am looking suspicious by not going.

BUT... I realize that by going that the Police are investigating a case and trying to put something together to present to the prosecutor for charging. So, the burden of proving a case is upon the police and prosecutor. And in my case, I have to prove nothing and "anything that I say can and would be used against me in a court of law". 

So, I am worried that I could possibly unintentionally incriminate myself.

Thanks Detox! I just read your comments after my last post.

I am just a little confused and nervous as to why the cops are calling me and want me to come to their station?

I feel like I am being targeted by them for some reason. I also feel like I may be being falsely accused for something!

They probably have a list of people that worked there when it happened. They're just doing their jobs. I'd try to stay out of it.

Cases like this they will of course look into ex- employees

just for the hell of it lets say you were the victum of said theft, would you want your  co-workers to aid the police? Of course you go, if you are innocent they cant prove you did it.It aint murder. Geez.

If someone does a crime against you or your family, then likewise don't expect anyone to come forward to help the police.

They're most likely on a fishing expedition. Politely but firmly tell them you wouldn't feel comfortable talking to them without a lawyer but you can't afford one. If they would provide you with independent counsel at their expense, you'll come in and talk to them.

You won't hear from them again.

Do not talk to the investigating cops.  They are trying to put a case together.  These guys are NOT interested in the truth.  They are looking to nail somebody, ANYBODY, for the crime.  You are under no obligation to talk, so, DON'T.  Try to be a nice guy and you'll get fucked.

dont go. if they truly want to involve you, they will come find you .

dont speak to them without legal representation

Only way you go in is if you had an attorney present and they are too expensive.
