it was created for those that profit from it today. think lawyers, judges, police state, all the people that get rich with USD's without ever having to give something back on the market to society in return. So i guess if you cash checks by putting pot smokers in prison, then it must be working just fine for you!

as a pot smoking, supposed anti prohibition, states district attorney, how did you rationalize putting pot smokers in prison? Or is it just a matter of don't bite the hand that feeds,,,,,,
I know that it is only a jobs program for the state, and a mode of control. Think about it, there is not a more grotesque instance of regulatory enforcement of economic rent be added atop a market. Marijuana prices in the US are estimated to be 100x greater then the cost of production, so follow where that economic rent goes, and as always ask cui bono? There's two sides to every trade, the answers lie in who benefits from the suffering of the most persecuted group of people modern man has ever known, the american pot smoker

the first question is a good one. being a prosecutor was my second job and i looked at that aspect of it as every job has its pros and cons. you just have to decide if the pros outweigh the cons. more importantly, i really didn't put too many people in jail for marijuana. i was fortunate to work in a very liberal county with relatively liberal lawmakers so that i had a lot of discretion in what should happen to the people i prosecuted. weith that discretion, i was very lenient on drug cases, as lenient as possible. basically, if you had a drug case in my county, you really wanted me as your prosecutor. so, i figure i've done a lot more benefit to drug users by exercising government power in a much more considerate manner than the conservative, law and order types or just about anyone else.
so, if you have been arrested for a marijuana charge. there's the guyprotesting on the street corner about how the war on drugs is fair. you like that guy but he doesn't do shit for you. and then there's me, the evil lawyer getting paid on the backs of the so-called criminals. you hate me but i do a lot more for you.

The war on drugs is not working if the local and federal gov'ts are spending about 4.65 million USD per hour (this is what they spent in 2010) in an attempt to sieze about 10% of the illegal drugs that are in the US. The 10% I made up. I have no idea what the figure might be.
Furthermore, how much money is spent in the judicial process when someone is caught with his personal stash of marijuana? A man is driving home getting set to chill with his wife in his home and smoke some ganja after a stressful week of work. They're gonna put in a funny movie, throw a frozen pizza in the oven, and enjoy a peaceful night at home with some smoke. Nope... we need to throw him in jail and spend thousands of dollars doing it. We don't need him roaming around the streets.
Meanwhile there's an undetected meth lab right down the street, and there are kids in their mid 20s driving around the neighborhood drunk off their asses. It's a good thing the law is focusing on the important things.

The war on drugs was based on a false premise, and it has always been evil and laced with ill intent, however, noone could imagine the evil that would be born of the Clinton admin when he thew reason out the window and sold this countries soul via ramping up spending in the omnibus and bringing on a whole new era of evil with the for-profit prison system.
