I am all for every race being empowered, but do we really have to argue that what he said came off racist especially when a majority of the audience is the young. Their is a time and a place for everything and in the context of this moment and the stage he was on he was wrong.
Yeah good one Lin should say Asian power next time he goes to dunk, or Chase should say white power next time he dunks..... or how Dirk saying German power.

Within moments of the original post, you get a tall glass of white whine, with the oft-repeated "if a white person said they would..." this time, exposing themselves like a hooker on dimly lit street corner to a drooling passerby, remarkably, not understanding, as some have said here, that the 'white power' phrase is forever linked to the white supremacy movement and carries much more racist impact, hate and discrimination the 'black power' phrase ever could (which I won't provide an explanation for because if you choose to read from some of the contributors, it's already been done).
It leaves you wondering who really does the majority of this alleged 'national complaining' whites here are deluded into thinking blacks do. The only complaints I see are from ignorant privileged white males in this threads. What a surprise...
If german Dirk Nowitski had held his fist in the air and yelled "White power!", there would have been an issue. Twitter would have blown up. It would have been a huge deal.
Tell me thats not true.

The movement was prominent in the late 1960s and early 1970s, emphasizing racial pride and the creation of black political and cultural institutions to nurture and promote black collective interests and advance black values.
The slogan has been used in the United States by African Americans to celebrate heritage and personal pride. The black pride movement permeated into the work of African American popular musicians. The black pride movement is very prevalent in Brazil, especially throughout their poorer population, and in the Brazilian funk music genre. Brazilian funk’s origin reflects Brazilian black resistance. Ethnomusicologist George Yúdice states that youths were engaging black culture mediated by a U.S. culture industry met with many arguments against their susceptibility to cultural colonization. Although it borrows some ingredients from hip hop, its style still remains unique to Brazil (specifically Rio and São Paulo).
Black pride has been a central theme of the originally Jamaican Rastafari movement since the second half of the 20th century. It has been described as "a rock in the face of expressions of white superiority".
White pride: is a slogan indicating pride in being white. The slogan has been adopted by neo-Nazi and white supremacist organizations.
White pride advocates claim that there is a cultural double standard in which only certain ethnic groups are permitted to openly express pride in their heritage, and that white pride is not inherently racist, being roughly analogous to racial positions such as Asian pride, black pride, brown pride, or non-racial forms such as happy pride.
Carol M. Swain and Russell Nieli state that the white pride movement is a relatively new phenomenon in the United States, arguing that over the course of the 1990s, "a new white pride, white protest, and white consciousness movement has developed in America". They identify three contributing factors: an immigrant influx during the 1980s and 1990s, resentment over affirmative action policies, and the growth of the Internet as a tool for the expression and mobilization of grievances . Sociologists Betty A. Dobratz and Stephanie L Shanks-Meile state that "White Power! White Pride!" is "a much-used chant of white separatist movement supporters". According to Joseph T. Roy of the Southern Poverty Law Center, white supremacists often circulate material on the Internet and elsewhere that "portrays the groups not as haters, but as simple white pride civic groups concerned with social ills". The slogan "White Pride, World Wide" appears in the logo of Stormfront, a website owned and operated by Don Black, who was formerly a Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. The North Georgia White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan describe themselves as "a patriotic, White Christian revival movement dedicated to preserving the maintenance of White Pride and the rights of the White Race".

Yeah I can agree with you Scal. I don't know how whites get so bent out of shape over a stupid comment like this. If anything it just make Diddy look like a dumb hoodrat. Be proud if YOU do something good - like a good grade in school, winning something etc.
I always laugh at (young) Americans who go: "We liberated Europe from the Nazis". No, you didn't. Unless you were there you did friggin nothing.
This black power and white guilt thing is just stupid. If you're white you can't take the blame for what some people (who happened to be white) did hundreds of years ago.
Oh and the blacks have treated blacks just as bad - even to this day.
And you can't take the suffering upon yourself because people you share colour were slaves.

If you read or understood my post I am saying EXACTLY THAT. Because the white power term is inextricably linked to the white supremacy movement, whites, and anyones else who chooses to use it, would alarm those around them if they ever uttered this phrase. It is a term of extreme hate against anyone who is nonwhite (and towards other groups as well), even to the point of 'cleansing' the nation by any means necessary in the most extreme cases.
But as I always say, it is your right to say it and preserves freedom of speech for all if you do so.
Just don't be surprised if people of all races start moving away from you if you choose to say it. The same goes for Dirk or anyone else.
