what is the world coming to. i remember when i was in 4th grade music class and the teacher was trying to teach the class and i was sitting next to the paino and kept hitting the keys and the teacher kept telling me to stop and i kept doing it. must have been pretty annoying. anyway, after telling me to stop several times, the teacher finally took a heavy book and just fuckin hammered me upside my head with it. my ears were ringing for hours. but i also quit fuckin with the piano while the teacher was talking.
later that day, i got pulled out of class by the principal and thougth i was going to get in trouble but he was very nice and asked me if i was ok. i told him i was fine and was just happy not to get in trouble.
i forgot if i told my parents or the principal did but their response was: quit fuckin around in class and listen to the teacher. and that was the end of it.
so this kid throws chalk at the teacher and he hits her and it's national news??

Gotta side with mike here. They used to hit kids on the hands with rulers in the old days. Doesn't make it right.
Kid deserved to be disciplined, but there are plenty of ways to do that other than a punch to the nose. Principal's office....detention.....suspension.....tell parents. You name it.

ogmike, nowhere did i say it isn't a problem. i'm saying it doesn't remotely rise to the level of national news. suspend the teacher or send him to sensitivity training or fire him if that's necessary. but with all the serious shit that's goes on, how did this chickenshit incident make the news?
this frustrates me. people may read this story that has little impact on anyone or anything and get fired up but the hundreds of things happening out there that have a very serious impact on us get ignored.

i tried to keep it up but i've been tone deaf in my left ear since elementary school for some reason.
however, my kids both take piano. they are required to practice at home. i watch them with my webster's unabridged international edition dictionary in hand. when they miss a note, we all know what's coming. i hope fox news doesn't find out. but they'll be better piano players for it.

I see what you're saying in that there are much more important things going on in the world, that don't make the national news. Yet something like this is brought to everyone's attention. It just sounded like you were downplaying the incident a little, especially when making comparisons to your own situation as a child.
I think it is a major issue, not sure if it's national news worthy, but a serious issue nonetheless. Something you got to realize about news these days is, they report what they feel like readers will be interested in or will react to the most. You wonder why not a lot of international news gets covered in our newspapers or our news stations. Most readers don't care about this because it probably has no direct affect on their lives. They rather talk about how outraged they are regarding this teacher who punched a girl, and how they would react if it was their daughter who got punched. American readers can't relate to riots and political unrest that is taking place throughout the world. But, they're very capable of reading about Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, because they know they're moronic neighbor will be able to talk to them about it.

Presbyterian Children's Village, which has two facilities in the greater Philadelphia region, caters to troubled teens who have issues caused by violence, neglect, addiction, poverty or mental illness.
I am assuming that this is some type of alternative school.
Looks that way Slovak. Probably a youngster treated shitty her whole life and has an attitude now.
No way a teacher should respond this way in any school, but for sure not in a school like that. They already know that the students are high risk and may have issues.
Histrionic personality disorder. It's sad
