If Joe Pa was alive... would he approve of what his former players and people are blasting the university for how he was fired and not allowed to coach one last game?
I mean is that what Joe Pa taught these people during their time at PSU? I am not sure a man of such values would approve of the tone of anger and outrage ...
Look at his legacy of the class, dignity and resolve he modeled... I dont think he modeled his players to speak out so negatively... Joe Pa would have put the reputation of the school first and not approve of blasting it in the presses...
When controvarsy or problems occurred with his program or at the school Joe Pa cleared modelled to everyone to how conduct themselves properly by keeping quiet if it were to make PSU look bad...You just get through the rough times first...
And then years later say you wished you would have done more...

the problem with keeping quiet, which is highly respectable, is people assumed because he was quiet he "must" have been guilty of something. not the case at all, outsiders just do not know how this guy is and how he would never call someone out for something. yes, even sandusky until he was found guilty and even then he would speak of the victims and how sad instead of blasting sandusky for tarnishing everything.
so those that are sick of his negative treatment by the media have taken a stand and defended whether joe likes it or not. and they are coming back hard.
i must mention too, only a couple, phil knight especially, mentioned the trustees screwed up. many others did not speak to that.
it was worth mentioning and i believe the paterno family who was there needed that and it lifter their spirits. it seemed like they have been holding it in for a while and needed what phil knight said to be said.
joe probably rolled over in his grave.

why do you keep referring to Phil Knight as if he is some moral compass?

joe paternos last words to reporter/writer joe posnanski in his hospital bed
I asked Paterno at one point in that last month if he hoped that people would come to see and measure his full life rather than a single, hazy event involving an alleged child molester. "It doesnt matter what people think of me, I've lived my life. I just hope the truth comes out. And I hope the victims find peace."
gee, what a guilty coward with no class he is

Except not properly handle a coach under his supervision, a coach that was molesting kids. Real upstanding guy.
I believe Joe Paterno was a good fella...just severely mishandled a bad situation. But, it involved sexual molestation of kids. Inexcusable.
jerry sandusky did not work for him for 14 years, so it was hardly under his supervision. joe paterno told his supervisors what he heard second hand to his AD and head of police who then told the president of the university. joe paterno cannot make citizen arrests. blame the governor, who let this happen who continued to take payments for his campaign from second mile, sanduskys foundation and then when he gained office he decided to investigate deeper to promote his candidacy. the deeper you dig and research, the more truth will come to you. trust me on this one thing, i wont let you down. you are just doing yourselves a disservice.

I think Joe Pa gave an example with his legacy of how to handle this situation and those that learned from him should follow his example...
keep quiet, sweep it under the rug and then regret not saying more later if it will shine a negative light on PSU...
I also think it is unfair to blame the media, the university etc for his death or his suffering...
The only person responsible for Joe Pa's death is sandusky.... the only person responsible for tarnishing his legacy was sandusky... and is Joe Pa was able to handle "the problem" there would be no problem...
A Joe Pa in his sane/right mind would not approve of how his friends, family and players have been acting

All I can sat is that people have a moral obligation to do the MOST they can to protect children. Joe Paterno did the absolute minimum. Joe Paterno chose not to care-bottom line. His decision to not care enabled a serial pedophile to continue to rape young boys. Young lives were ruined forever because Joe Paterno-among others-decided to look the other way. Joe Paterno's inaction in this situation-is his lasting legacy. He could have done a hell of a lot more then he actually did to protect children-but he didn't. Fuck Joe paterno.

Listen man...I'm not here to argue whether Joe Paterno was a good guy. Like I said, I am sure he was an all around decent human.
But, when someone tells you one of your employees was banging a kid in the shower and all you do is tell someone else...that is all well and good, but when nothing was done IMMEDIATELY he should have done more. Just because he told someone else doesn't mean he did enough and that is my point. He didn't do enough, and that is a fucking shame because he could have stopped the abuse right then.
The coach that told Joe Paterno is just as guilty of not doing enough. When he saw that not much was being done, he should have stepped up.

i guess to me telling his boss and the chief of police is really all you can really do. especially if you did not witness the rape, and you were not told the whole story by someone who said he heard slapping sounds and such and jerry and a boy in the shower. joe turned it over to people he thought would do their due dilligence, after all that is what police officers get paid to do, investigate alleged crimes. joe paterno is paid to coach football, you act as if he did nothing. many of you would not be happy unless joe paterno made a citizens arrest on joe paterno.
i dont blame anyone, you just have not spent the time to research facts, hell i dont think you have any idea of what tom corbett has or has not done in this. nor do you care which is a shame because he runs that state. the paterno family told him to stay away from the funeral. all those like you care about is sticking to the theory that joe paterno knew more, should have done more like make an arrest himself or beat up sandusky. because you cant turn back now, your feet are entrenched in the mud and second guessing yourself or admitting you overreacted now will just emberass your handle.
