Just read all 23 pages released by the Grand Jury investigation.  Pretty graphic.  In academia, image is everything, I don't think Paterno survives this.

More victims are starting to come forward saying they were raped by Sandusky (many times on the Penn State campus and even in the Penn State locker room).

One of them is a guy in his 20’s that lives in Pennsylvania and says he has never told anyone what happened.

If there are already about a dozen kids that have come forward, how many more are there that haven’t come forward?

How many of them could have been saved if Paterno had acted like a god damn human being and told someone who actually gave a garbage.

But nope, Paterno would rather protect the good name (no longer) of his football program than stop his friend from continuing to sexually abuse little boys.

Paterno and anyone else who knew about this and did nothing to stop it is a piece of garbage.

Bullshit.

Try educating yourself and reading the grand jury report.

I couldn’t get all the way through because it was too friggin horrific.  But since you seem to enjoy defending people who protect active pedophiles it should be right up your alley.

And even if that was true, and 2003 was the earliest Paterno learned what was going on, HE STILL DID NOTHING ABOUT IT.

He allowed his friend to spend the next 6+ years raping little boys because he didn’t want to ruin the good name of his program.

Keep attempting to defend what this piece of garbage did.  You are showing your true colors.

I wonder if Joe Paterno's actions (or lack of ) would have been the same if  he found out one his sons had been by Sandusky ???? Sandusky is married (not for long!) and has six children ( five boys, 1 girl). It begs the question if he sexually assaulted them also?

His 6 children are adopted and he also took in many foster kids. The man will be killed in prison.

And read the grand jury report. There were many incidents reported and each time either no charges were filed and/or the prosecutor determined there wasn't enough evidence to bring to trial.

Blame the university officials and police for not doing their job. NOT JOE PATERNO. He knew of one incident and reported it. He had zero knowledge of how evil his friend was. Joe Paterno did nothing wrong. Blame the friggin sicko not Joe.

There is a lot more to this whole sad story that will never be known to us. So many people involved and each of them telling their superiors, or whomever you want to call them, but no one ever doing the right thing by calling the authorities. Paterno is just as much to blame as the graduate assistant, the ad, the president, and whoever else. All of them should at the minimum get the boot.

There is ZERO evidence Joe Paterno went along with any cover up.

If there is let me know.

But hey, what can we expect what the same guy that started a thread ranting about how we should all pay 10% MORE taxes?

This garbage is absolutely sick. A 65+ year old man using a football camp for underprivileged kids to take advantage of them. Absolutely pathetic. Sandusky needs to be put into jail for the remainder of his life and may he rot in hell

everyone's got an opinion and i love how everyone would have beat the darn out of a naked guy in the guy shower, no questions asked.

20/20 does a show "what would you do?"  shows the public in uncomfortable situations, like a man yelling at a woman, people stealing from others and its always the same story.  about 1 of 10 people actually do something.

but everyone at covers would throw down his sneakers and start beating the piss out of a scary, naked dude in the shower who is banging a 10 year old, no questions asked.  hell, sandusky would kick over half people's fools, hes not some small dude by the way.

i am so sick of people letting the police of the hook for their failed investigation in 1998 when this could have been stopped.  In fact, Paterno was the only one who did a thing, firing Sandusky.

Dont think for one minute Sandusky wasnt bitter either, and i think he is a sick darn who obviously has many issues, most of which is molesting kids.  But something tells me he wanted to stick it (no pun) to Paterno and Penn State just as much for his firing and not getting the gig from Paterno.  Joe told him he would not be the man to take over back in 98.  This would also show how sick a darn this guy is by actually answering the door when a reporter showed up there two days ago.  Who in this situation answers the door??  Oh, Sandusky, draped in Penn State warmups.

Dont get me wrong, far too many were negligent here and the shame is all of the victims here of course.  But i think Sandusky had alterior motives to darn joe and others too.  The guy admitted in 1998 he molested kids and the COPS did nothing.

Stop letting the COPS off the hook here so easily, they didnt do their job!!!  Joe did his job, legally, perhaps not morally.  But I am sick of all the people blaming him and McQueary as much as they blame Sandusky.  Give me a break, they are not nearly as at fault like they are child molesters.  A pathetic comparison.

Not to mention, nobody here besides the Attorney General and police have all the facts and joe was not charged in any way shape or form but 3 others were.

IF joe knew 100 percent about all of these details, yeah he is a piece of garbage.  But no one on covers.com knows what joe knew, its all speculation.

And to calm all of your calling for his head like you would be the one to let him go, newsflash, there have been rumors that he was going to announce before the nebraska game this is it for him anyway.  Odds were estimated at about 60-75 percent he was done due to health, he would presumably get the record, he has no qb to win a national championship with, and felt a real shot to get a great candidate with Dungy and Urban available/interested.

One last thing, you think the PSU coaches didnt know this was coming?  They testified in December 2010, so its been almost a year.  Joe could have bowed out gracefully last year and avoid this sure circus this year.  He did not.

Lets let the man speak and see what he says, he wanted to today and the president who is more responsible than him if there was a cover up would not let him due to fear of what he might say.  Joe may have a completely different story of who knew and what he tried to do that none of us know.  He may have covered it up, no one can say 100 percent.

Focus on the victims and the predator Sandusky.  And if you want to move on from that, the pigs who didnt follow through in 1998 or thereafter.  No red flags when Sandusky was mysteriously let go by Paterno?  The cops are supposed to protect our society, thats what they get paid for.  They failed these kids more than any parent/administrator.

You are correct.

Especially the university cops. Failed in a bigtime way.

And the AD and the other guy. They are guilty as well.

Not Joe Paterno.

Everyone blames all of these other people for allowing a predator to roam the campus, but feel sorry for sanduskys wife.....PLEASE

if anyone had an idea something was going on, she certainly had to.  If not, then it just shows how good Sandusky was at covering these things up and how others like Joe would be fooled into believing he was innocent too.

If you honestly think Joe knew full well in his heart that this guy was raping and abusing kids left and right and he let it slide, i would highly doubt that.  People generally dont want to believe these things and block it out.  He may be guilty of that, but in know way do i believe all of these men knew kids were getting molested left and right and just let it happen.  I will give them their day in court while hopefully sandusky rots in hell or kills himself soon.

Very well written post

Everyone who has posted in this thread should try their best to read this post I quoted above with an open mind. Easy to see both sides to what alot of you guys are saying, but right now, everything is speculation.  Alot of mob mentality going on right now without giving Paterno the chance to defend himself.

This is even a better post. I'm not sure if wife knew or not. After reading grand jury report it sounds very possible he hid this from his wife.

I feel the AD and other guy charged with perjury knew what happened with the 1 kid in the shower and covered it up.

Yes, I would. At least I would try, I don't care if he is bigger and stronger then me or not. Well provide some evidence that Joe Paterno knew those details and I will agree with you.

If your longtime friend denies it and the higher ups say it's garbage how the darn would he know the extent of what was going on???

He heard about 1 incident and it was deemed to not happen.

This doesn't make it right, or necessarily clear Paterno, but a lot of people in Happy Valley "knew" what Paterno "knew." Rumors about this have been circulating for years. I know I'd heard them years ago, but that is all they were, rumors. Without actually being in the locker room, how could Paterno know what happened any better than anyone else who heard the same rumors?

Now, if it comes out that Paterno was involved in some sort of hush up involving the grad assistant, and it is proven that he was bribed with an assistant coach position, that changes everything and I'd agree with everything you guys are saying then.  Untill that happens, or until at least it is proven that Paterno had more insight to what was happening then the rumors that pretty much everyone heard (cops included), I'm not ready to crucify the man

If you’re going to try and attempt to defend people who protect active pedophiles at least try and get your facts straight.

Paterno knew that Sandusky was investigated in 1998 for child sex abuse.  Then in 2002 a grad student told Paterno he saw Sandusky sodomizing a young boy in the Penn State showers.  All Paterno did was tell the AD and then when the AD covered it up Paterno went on his merry way like nothing ever happened.

No follow up.

No checking to see if the victim was ok.

He had to protect his precious program because, after all, that is WAY more important than protecting innocent little boys from being sodomized and forced to perform oral sex on his long time friend.

Paterno and anyone else who knew about this and did nothing is a piece of garbage.

And anyone that would have done the same thing is a piece of garbage too.  I have a feeling that includes you.

Paterno should have INSTANTLY called 911 upon hearing that Sandusky was witnessed sodomizing a 10 year old in a shower room. As someone in charge of young adults for years-Paterno didn't do nearly enough in this situation & that's why he's gonna be thrown out on his behind within 48 hours. Paterno should rot in hell.

I dont know what i would do in mcquearys position he was in, no one does when given that situation if its not your kid.  I would think first utter shock of what was going on.  Then i would probably say what the f are you doing and run to the kids aid.  I am not one to fight a naked man as i dont think that would solve this situation honestly, aiding the childrens safety would have been first and foremost.

would i have ran away like mcqueary did? no, but mcqueary is a joker and one of the worst coaches on the staff so that doesnt surprise me one bit.  the point of the 20/20 reference was many people react differently to different situations, especially witnessing crimes.  in fact, more oft than not, clearly those dont act.  ask a psychologist why, i dont have your answer.  i just dont believe we have all of these tough guys who would just kick his behind.  Because what does that solve anyway if Sandusky kicks your behind and whisks the kid away.  You solved nothing, grow up.
