32-32

The pick:

Notre Dame -14 over Temple

Temple has lost everything from it's world class defense: it's entire linebacking core and top 3 pass rushers.

Philip Walker at QB? Gone.

But the biggest loss by far? Matt Rhule to Baylor.

That was THE GUY who revived the Temple program to national attention (something that hasn't happened in half a century).

All these losses against a Notre Dame team coming off a 4-8 season at home which found every which way to have one it's worst seasons ever.

Opening the season at home in front of alumni against a depleted Temple team with a new HC? 2 TD's is a bargain.

Simple write-up because not many people will read it now but the line will rise so I'm posting it now.

plus, N Dame finished the renovations on the new stadium, and this will be the first game.   I just hope N Dame's 4-8 season in 2016 will scare away enough squares...I like N. Dame up to -16...

this is no touchie material...stay away from this game until you know how ND QB play will be...

my two cents...

this is exactly sentiment that us N Dame backers are counting on to keep the spreads reasonable for at least the first month...Wimbush with the new OC is going to to light Temple up...

FINALLY, someone who understands why there is a reason to jump on these games several MONTHS in advance.

Of COURSE, we are foregoing info on ND with this pick, but when full knowledge is available a week before kick-off, the line could be highly unsatisfactory.

Rhule was EVERYTHING and Temple was devastated when he left. He was the heart and soul of all Temple accomplished the past two years. Now you're non-conference opener is AT ND. Temple has this down as a loss loss loss and ND and Kelly will be more than willing to make this a statement Game to erase the catastrophe of last season.

I like the point about the renovations too. Nice "whip cream" on top of the cap.

32-32

Lots and lots of NBA plays....the most volatile of leagues by far...but still selective. Some guys on here are 32-32 every two weeks.

I liken Matt Rhule's ascension with Temple football to John Calipari's rise at UMass in CBB. From nowhere to relevance. The drop off soon to occur.

It doesn't matter who ND starts at qb here. All that matters is the Irish qb can hand the ball off and can complete some simple passes with no turnovers.

The new Temple program is in way over their level in front of Touchdown Jesus.

The Fightin' Irish gonna have their way in South Bend.

After a 4-8 season Brian Kelly is going to grind the Owls up because he can.

This game will be decided in the trenches, and ND has all of the advantages on all 3 sides of the ball.

so what do you guys believe will be the final line on Sep 2?    My prediction -16.5...I think the 1st line was like ND -6 then quickly rose to -10...that had to be driven by sharps... I hope the public will continue to be skeptical of N Dame so the line won't get unreasonable...And Wimbush will be the starting QB for ND...This game will be like the film Rudy...where Notre Dame will be Notre Dame, and Temple will be Rudy...(ie practice dummy)...

I'm already in Hoosier and you are too so who cares. Yes 16.5 and even 17 is possible.

I'm still watching the Purdue Louisville line because that is a skyrocketer,

That opened at 20.5 on 5Dimes and is already up to 26!!!

I kid you not when I say that may get to 29ish!!! From 20.5!

Funky - All well said. Nothing to add.

I know prima facie the Lou -26 Purdue line looks good...my concern is with NC and Clemson on deck, along with Brohm working with Petrino at Western Kentucky, will Petrino call the dogs off in the 4th quarter.  Plus, Lou is replacing a number of key starters on D...  I believe Purdue is capable of scoring...petrino could say screw it, Lou will beat Purdue's a$$ 52 to 10, its not his problem that Purdue sucks, or he could call the dogs off...the game is at a neutral field in Indi, and there will be probably 65% of those folks rotting for Purdue...Its a np for me, but good luck...

I'll have to look into the starters Louisville lost because I like hearing that.

Obviously the fear is Lamar who can just shred Purdue.

Hoping the line continues to rise to 29ish. Perhaps that's wishful thinking but it already has shot up 5.5 points 4 months out...

And yes, calling off the dogs at this line is a real possibility. Interesting spot given the production Blough brought on offense last year...

I would hope someone max bet it at 5Dimes just to give them exposure and now they are scared. Rest assured they won't put the line back up at a lower number than 14....

No wait. I just checked. It's up at 14.5.

Predicted score at oddshark...

Temple 35.6, ND 26.6

I looked all over the place for an opening line, can't find anything.

I assume -14 was the first line everyone saw?

Good luck to you guys this upcoming season.

Good luck to you guys this upcoming season.

The lowest I saw was -13 and I go on 5Dimes daily to check these lines. I waited a day for the write-up and it already went up a point.

On VegasInsider.com the South Point has it at -13.
Now if you look at The Westgate Superbook on VI you see -57.5 and an over/under at 203.5.  They do have typos from time to time!
