LOVE THE PJ FLECK HIRING

8-4 or better again ?????

6-6 or worse is a real possibilty IMO.  They'll start out ok with this schedule.  May lose to Oregon State straight up, but could/should start 5-2.  Last 5 games will rough I think, looks like a 1-4 finish at best to me.

Remember the Fleckster has a "rebuild" on his hands..... a cultural rebuild.  Tearing the program down some in year 1 allows Fleck to be the hero in years 2 & 3 if there is improvement then (but only compared to year 1 Fleck results.... not the compared to his predecessor's 9 wins in 2016).

6   SMU

LOVE what Chad Morris has done here in a short amount of time ..

STRENGTHS

THE TOP 8 RECEIVING TARGETS RETURN FROM LAST YEAR .= Been recruiting well with several 3 stars , and add LSU Transfer Trey Quinn...

QB Returning starter Ben Hicks must fend off Arkansas transfer Rafe Peavey  ...

SCHEDULE The Mustangs Dont Leave Texas until Oct 21st ( game 7 at Cincinnati )...ONLY  PLAY 3 GAMES OUTSIDE OF TEXAS ..

The O Line returns 81 Career Starts ( 3.5 starters ?)

16 of the top 25 return on Defense

CONCERNS

DEFENSE is always a concern at SMU

D LINE AND RUN DEFENSE have major question marks

Pass Defense should be better after playing 3 FR in the secondary LY

SPECIAL TEAMS was one of the worst in the Nation , but was very young full of FR and SFT. who all return

The First 7 games have me thinking 5-2 or better
( at Oregon St is pivotal  as mentioned )

getting to warm up week 1 with my U at Buffalo Bulls should help the process ...

Last 5 Games are Brutal as you stated ...

My 8-4 might be a Best case scenario ...
6-6 or 7-5 possible
SHOULD AT LEAST GO BOWLING

Finding a Decent QB is my main concern ... Doubt I would touch any season wins totals or invest too much money in Futures ......
The $17 at 30-1 to win the B1G is likely my only bet for the preseason on the Gophers

THANKS FOR DROPPING BY BROTHER

a friend of mine works for Butch Jones at the University of Tennessee and I dont know if I would say they're going to be an improved team, but I think they're better than people realize.  I've been hearing about these prospects for the past 3-4 years, and I think they have a better team, even though they lost some key starters.  They lost both RB Jalen Hurd, and Alvin Kamara, they lost WR Josh Malone, CB Cam Sutton, LB Jalen Reeves Maybin, DE Derek Barnett, who was the leading sacker in Tenn history, and QB Josh Dobbs.

I know that sounds like a lot, but Jalen Hurd, Cam Sutton, and Jalen Reeves Maybin all missed 95% of the season last year, so they have already replaced these three.  Alvin Kamara is going to be a great NFL RB, but the Tenn OC Deborg really under used him.  Even though he averaged like 7 yards a touch, he had several games where he only got 8-12 touches.  He was splitting carries with Todd Kelly Jr, a highly recruited RB that really minimized Kamara's value.  The one player that is going to be hard to replace his production, is pass rusher Derek Barnett, but Tennessee was able to sign the number 1 JUCO prospect in the nation, Jonathan Kongbo, a 6'6 270lbs freak athlete, who has looked amazing during the spring.

Tennessee had the #4 recruiting class in 2014, and bc of all of the injuries most of that class has already gotten valuable playing time.  They have one of the best Wr's in the SEC with Jauan Jennings who is 6'4 215 lbs and a great WR, Marquez Callaway another big WR, Josh Smith a very good slot WR, and senior TE Ethan Wolfe, who should be on an NFL roster next year.

The Vols were able to sign two 5 star recruits to play OLine, including the #1 OT in the 2017 recruiting class. Defensively, they already have established players on every level.  Kongboh will replace Barnett, the other DE Kyle Phillips looks like hes ready for a breakout season, now that he's a JR.  He was the #4 rated DE in the country in 2014.  The middle of the Defense is manned by 5 star DT Kahlil McKenzie, and at LB they have three studs in Darrin Kirkland Colton Jumper and Nigel Warrior, all three players started as Freshman.

For the past 2-3 years, i've rooted against Tennessee, always telling my friend that they would never beat Florida with that god damn bum Josh Dobbs playing QB.  He agreed that Dobbs was holding the team back, and even though he's adament that Dormady has outplayed Dobbs the past two seasons, and many thought he should start over Dobbs as a freshman.  Ultimately, Dobbs was never replaced, I think one of the reasons behind that was Dormandy wasnt a blue chip prospect, and they figured they could sit him for a year or two before playing him.  I cant really say how good Quinton Dormady is, but according to my buddy he's a lot better than Dobbs.  During the Tennessee spring game, he didnt throw an incompletion, and after the game the QB's did a skills competition and he dropped a ball in a garbage can in the corner of the endzone from 30 yards out.  If he ends up being a good QB, I think Tennessee could easily win the SEC East.

Just a team I think is worth keeping an eye on...

Al, this is a big year for Butch Jones as he enters his fifth year with  Tennessee.  He brought in a bunch of new assistant coaches this year so he needs to make a statement or he will be given his walking papers.  Lot of big money donors not happy with Jones.

I have little confidence in the man.

I Loved Tennessee coming into last season , They cost me a chunk of change ...

Thank you for the wonderful insight above , BUT the SEC EAST has been tough sledding for me ( 4+ years Now ) ...

Right now I think Missouri will carry some value into the 2017 season ( ATS) ...watch them go 0-8 vs the SEC

Ya I feel like a hater, bc I HATE Tennessee, mostly bc thats all I hear about.  I was so happy when Butch didnt go for 2 against Florida two years ago, and Will Grier came back and beat them by 1 pt..

The one reason I can excuse the Vols performance last year, was because they were missing Jalen Reeves Maybin at LB, Cam Sutton at CB, Kirkland LB, and then they also lost most of their DLine.  I thought Butch really screwed up by not giving Kamara the ball, but now that their OC is gone, and Dobbs is too, I think they have a shot at surprising the East...

Notre Dame will be much better team than last year, they have 5 solid offensive lineman, including their LT Mike Mcglinchey and C Quenton Nelson who should both be high draft picks.

They need to replace Deshone Kizer, but that shouldnt be too hard.  Brandon Wimbush is a red shirt sophmore who some people thought he was going to beat Kizer out before the season even started.  Wimbush is a true dual threat QB, and he has some of the best WR's in the country, imcluding Equanimous St Brown, 5 star junior Corey Holmes, and star TE Alize Jones. a great player who missed all of last season due to academic suspension.  They also have a very good RB, Josh Adams.

Great work as always brother Double. Connelly could be right about CSU, but the biggest problem I have with them is they won 9 games ATS last year. Teams who come out of nowhere to cover that many games, very seldom repeat that feat the next year. And in fact usually end up with a .500 or less ATS record. Not saying they can't get the wins, I just think from a betting prospective they'll be a little overvalued...Good luck this season Double.
