Good question Rick.  Two teams come to mind at the moment.

Oregon -The Ducks are coming off a 4-8 season.  Enter a new head coach and two new coordinators.  My view is Oregon bounces back in a BIG way.

South Carolina - I think Muschamp did a commendable job by winning six games during 2016.  Look for the defense to make significant progress in year two.  The key for making some noise in the SEC East is the offensive line.  With new OL coach Eric Wilcox, the line will be much better.

I'm afraid we'll find out that USC's QB is overrated after getting some freshman success against a bunch of atrocious defenses.

Notre Dame could be listed as a sleeper after bombing out last year with a 4-8 record.  The Irish completely overhauled their coaching staff and there is some talent on the team.

Getting rid of defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder is a huge plus!

Probably depends on how the offensive line plays.  Got to replace three lineman that made all-conference last year.

My List of sleepers so far...
Memphis - R Ferguson at QB, 2nd year coach who likes to score, returning 9 on O, and 6 on D...

Wyoming - Top rated NFL caliber/potential QB returning

If we're going teams i have had great success the last few years picking who would be the big 12 team that makes a big leap forward .

This year my Big 12 team to make a leap forward is Texas Tech. 8-9 wins for the Red Raiders

I'm trying to squint and see more than 6, maybe 7 wins max and I just can't do it with this already bad defense and who they lose.  The D-line is a concern for me having to replace 3 of 4 starters including both DTs.  Fehoko was a stud, so his transfer really hurts. The Secondary looks to be the position group with the most experience back.  LB may be ok if Brooks returns ok from knee surgery and looks like Dakota Allen is back after being kicked off and then attending JC in 2016.

At least the offense looks exciting again even with leading WR Giles announcing this week that he's leaving Texas Tech.  WR depth still solid.  O-line has basically 4 starters back with Morales getting a 7th year.  All RBs back.  QB Shimonek proved capable when given an opportunity.

Looks like more shootouts to me.  Tough to win 8-9 games without a semi-decent run defense.

I like Memphis, thanks for the that one.  Ferguson can be shakey from time to time like against Navy and Temple, played pretty bad

Also, Wyoming is good too.  good at home, horrible defense

Just have to pick your spots w/ both of these teams.

I like Texas Tech and especially that QB, Sminoek (whatever his name is).  Again very situational. Only game jumping out at me is the revenge game against Iowa State at home.  TBD

Guys nobody here at covers has been more critical of Texas Tech and Kliff Kingsbury then I have been especially because of the defense always going to get hot dogs when its time for them to go on the  field. In my projection I think Texas Tech will shave off about 10 PPG from their defense. Basically they will go from sucks to stinks. Here is Texas Tech's schedule and i'll give you where I see the wins:

Sep 2nd HM Eastern Washington win{Though always tough to play EWU}

Sep 9th BYE {Golly I hate early bye weeks}

Sep 16th HM AZ.State win{Revenge game for Tech had they beaten ASU LY they would've made a bowl. Lost LY 68-55}

Sep 23rd at Houston

Sep 30th HM Oklahoma State {I'm saying Tech will split the Houston and OK.State games. If they beat Houston they lose to Ok.State. If they lose to Houston they beat Ok.State}

Oct 7th at Kansas win{Kansas will be improved with Meachem coming in from TCU as OC}

Oct 14th at West Virginia LOSS

Oct 21st HM Iowa State WIN{Had they beaten Iowa State they would've been a bowl team lost in Ames 66-10

Oct 28th at Oklahoma LOSS

Nov 4th HM Kansas State win{lost in the Little Apple LY 44-38}

Nov 11th at Baylor win

Nov 18th HM TCU win

Day after Thanksgiving at Texas win{Revenge game for Tech losing 45-37 to Texas LY and had they beaten the Longhorns they would've been a bowl team}

So they have 3 true revenge games vs ASU Iowa State and Texas{I classify revenge different than most and if anyone wants i'll explain my reasoning} They get Ok.State and K-State at HM. I see Texas Tech a team I've ripped for years{And I apologize to no one for it because they earned it} as 1 of the most improved teams in the country going 9-3 and they IMO will be the best Big 12 school in Texas this year

Just my 2 cents

Pack, I didn't think much of Kingsbury when Texas Tech hired him and that hasn't changed as he enters his 5th season (24-26).  He will have 14 starters back, including 6 on defense.  During 2016, the defense was dead last (128th) in both total defense and scoring defense giving up 571 ypg and 46 ppg respectively.  I would be embarrassed as a coach with those kind of numbers on defense.

Also breaking in a new quarterback as Mahomes heads to the NFL.

Appalachian State and Troy State are intriguing under-the-radar teams.  Worth watching early.

It's tough to know what qualifies as a sleeper, so i'll go with some teams that I think are a little undervalued at this point.  Auburn, Texas, Louisville, Clemson (If they can get decent QB production), Colorado State, Washington State, South Carolina, Georgia and Notre Dame

I also think FSU should be favored to win the NC, IMO they have the best defense in the country, and unlike Alabama, and Ohio State, they really have to replace three players, RB Dalvin Cook, OT Roderick Johnson, and DE Demarcus Walker.  Granted all three were great players for the Seminoles, they have two players with double digit sacks coming back to play DE; Josh Sweat and Brian Burns.  They also signed a 5 star freshman who could contribute.  Cook is the best RB in FSU history, but they signed the #1 RB in the country, Cam Akers, who looks like he'll be an immediate impact player, and returning RB Jacques Patrick who has been very productive whenever given the opportunity at FSU.

We'll learn a lot after the week 1 game between Alabama and FSU, and the week 2 game between Oklahoma and Ohio State.

What about HAWAII as a sleeper team this season?  Nick Rolovich had a stellar first season taking Hawaii from 3-10 to 7-7 while improving from 118th to 68th in scoring.  Rolovich will have 14 starters returning including his quarterback.

The Rainbow Warriors may just make some noise in the Mountain West Conference this year.

eeeh, I mean, yeah, they good at home, but take'em away from the islands and they are highly questionable.

I'll take a look at the schedule, and definitely will be situational.

What about the MIAMI REDHAWKS as a sleeper team?  Miami went from 0-6 to 6-6, then came within a blocked field goal of beating Mississippi State in a bowl.  With 16 starters returning, they seem to be in a position to win NOW, especially since the team was loaded with sophomore contributors last year.

Team worth watching...........

I like Miami-Ohio.   I think with 1 or 2 more good years, their coach will be moving on to a Power 5 school...
