Line is up to -16 but I think Stanford covers this easily. Wanted to get some thoughts from the forum but I want to unload on the Cardinal -16. It's a big number but I see an 33-17 type game

The more I look at this game the more I'm liking KSU. I'll be very surprised if Stanford has a smooth transition from Hogan to these very green QB's. I also think they are a little overrated on defense. They gave up 3+ touchdowns in 8 of their 12 regular season games last year, and return just half of their starters this year. I've also been hearing some good things about KSU QB Ertz. McCaffery will get his yards in this game, but something tells me Ertz is going to surprise some people and break a few.

Doc - Stanford gets Phillips (starter last season until injured, granted medical redshirt) and Hoffpauir (pro baseball) back as previous starters plus, Thomas, Kalambayi, Palma, Holder, Meeks and Lloyd. I will stick with Stanford -chalk...But, what do I know?

With new QBs, i think we'll get a low scoring game which is why I don't like -16. I usually find numbers around 17 the fav has trouble for some reason.
I see Stanford happy to grind out a workmanlike victory something like 27-13 and win and not cover.

Kst capable of big play, especially playing no-huddle..
agree with Phillybrown, 17 is two touchdowns, and a another
score for the cover....imo
I am playing Stanford 1/2 half in a small parlay...
glta
So if I follow your post correctly, you are taking Stanford 1st half at say -9 as part of parlay, but you don't think they can cover -15 or -16 for the game?

Tough game to cap, especially after that rose bowl blowout. I think Stanford plays conservative here.
Why?
Look at their schedule....2nd week off, then hosting SC. I can't see them going crazy with McCaffrey and revealing too many new plays, probably saving them for week 3. BOL

I'm not sure why you think K-State is such a pushover.
Bill Snyder always has his teams prepared. This team went .500 last year with Joe Hubener and a wide receiver in Cook (yes a wide receiver who was a 4th string QB) starting.
Team was destroyed with injuries and they still went 6-6 and went to a bowl. Lots of redemption this year with a QB in Ertz who went down the first play last year (literally tore his AcL on the very first play).
And you're eager to lay 2+ TD's against that team with a new QB at Stanford? Not me...

My lean would be Stanford....at home vs. a team probably 50 + spots away from them in most people's power rankings....just a lean though probably a no play for me

Thanks for the input scal. And others. Line moved down a half to -15.5. Not a big move but doesn't make me feel good about it. If it gets down to -14 I might take a stab at Stanford but it will be a medium play.

Agree with points made by Scal and others. Really, really like KState here.
You don't just replace a Kevin Hogan.
-3rd in Stanford history in passing yards
-3rd in Stanford history in passing TD's
-3/3 in bowl games, including 2 Rose Bowls
-Winningest QB in program history
Countless big wins on the road and the ultimate clutch QB. And he compiled all of those numbers in just a little over two years.
Dude left as big a void to fill as any departed player in the country. The new guys are talented on paper, but it's going to take time.
The Stanford D also lost its heart and soul with Blake Martinez graduating.
How many times have we watched Bill Snyder's "overmatched" 2 & 3 star recruits pull out games in which they have no business competing? They're not going to stop McCaffrey, but outside of USC, they have as good of a chance as anyone on Stanford's schedule at containing him.

I never thought Hogan was that great, and I sure dont think Ertz should scare anyone coming into a week 1 road game versus a top 15 program like Stanford. I realize Hogan had fantastic stats last year. Solomon is the breakout defensive star of 2016 in college football. For you haters of Athlons unit rankings prepare yourself KST Qb 9, Rb 8 Wr 8, O-line 8th best in BIG 12. 10 team conference that includes KU. Argument for Stanford and/or Under is to my liking. This will be either a 4 or 5* on my weekly 12 pack of picks.
